Retrosexual . . . Return of the Manly Man

Updated on April 12, 2015

Men, Men, Manly, Men

Vive la Diffe'rence

French phrase for "long live the difference", usually used to convey the differences between the male and female sexes. It has long since been proven that men and women differ in more ways than just physically.

While most men are visually stimulated by the female form many women don't experience the same reaction when eying the male of species unclothed. Granted the occasional glimpse of a muscular torso, with a six pack, may make us stop for a second glance, but overall we're not as affected as our male counterparts. Bottom line the fully or partially clad male is more appealing to a woman than "al naturale".

Cargo Pants, In All Their Hideous Glory

With That Being Said . .

During my adulthood I could give a rat's backside about men's fashion. Never taking notice unless it's some idiotic fad like the hideous grunge look. Or those horrid cargo quarter length pants that males seem to favor of late. Being my usual dollar late . . I've recently become aware of the Retrosexual look for men, and I'm loving it!

Retrosexual: According to urban a guy who actually likes women instead of wanting to act like them. he uses no hair care products except for white rain shampoo, has several flannel shirts, and owns at least one pair of work boots.

Depp Sporting Retro "Geek" Glasses and He Still Looks Great!

Retrosexual Fashion Statement

The look is very "barbered", clean shaven or manicured facial hair. Updated retro look back at your fathers clothes of the 60s and 70s. Made a short entrance in the 90's only to come back fast forwarded into 2010, propelled by the guys of Mad Men .

The look is eye catching, dressy, but not over stated or under done.

Note to self: noticing the lack of socks in retro ensemble . . . hating it, shades of Miami Vice!!

The Guys from Mad Men

You Never Get a Second Chance to Make a First Impression

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society. Mark Twain

There's talk that the Retrosexual Fashion may have been spurred on by the current economic downturn. Jobs are harder to secure, and it's in ones best interest to exude a good impression during an interview. Also when you look your best you feel more confident, which should heighten self esteem.

Gone are the days when one could saddle up to a job interview, church or court date in cargo shorts, tee shirt or jeans looking unkempt and slovenly. Granted all may not have the finances to dress to the nines for these occasions, but at least one should appear clean and neat.

Bravo!!!Excellent article!! I much rather prefer manly men to undress!!! But seriously... most women don't get visually stimulated by the sight of a naked man, I mean a fine specimen???? Geez, I guess that I break out in a sweat and start drooling for no apparent reason then :)

Great article! Good to know these things are cyclical! Don't think men were meant to use foo-foo skin care products and cosmetics. My man uses Head and Shoulders shampoo. Maybe I'll tell him to switch to White Rain. :) Hooray for the return of manly-men!

Enjoyable article. I am glad the metrosexual phase is over... too many shiny men all over the place. Never heard of retrosexual before. And I didn't know women prefer men clothed than naked... useful tip!
