The Best Affordable Summer Foundation: Covergirl NatureLuxe Silk Foundation and Gloss Balm Review

Updated on June 8, 2011

Makeup Snob!

I have to admit, I'm a little bit of a makeup snob, meaning I'm very picky about what I use, especially when it comes to foundations, powders, and lip color.  My preference is normally Clinique because it's what works best for me.  Unfortunately, I live 80 miles away from the nearest mall and so when I run out, I have to either drive to get it or wait several days to receive in the mail.

If I'm not able to get my hands on any of the Clinique for one reason or another, I tend to occasionally purchase a brand at Walmart if I really need it.  If I have to go that route, my choice is Neutrogena because it has acne fighting ingredients in it.

Today, I am very happy to say, that I have lessened my snubbery towards another line of makeup.  A brand I tend not to use very often because, well as dumb as this sounds, it's cheap.  You know how it is, if a product is not as expensive as the next, you tend to question the quality.

A Surprising Competitor

I was asked to review 2 products from the new Covergirl NatureLuxe Line which included:

To my surprise, the shade of foundation I chose ONLINE was a perfect match to my skin tone. Now ladies you know that's difficult to do. So either I got a lucky guess, or there may possibly be some magical match makin' powers in there. Just sayin'.

The Gloss Balm on the other hand I did not choose the shade of the one I received and unfortunately is was a little to bright for this not-so-white-half-white-girl! No worries, I went to Walmart and purchased one in my shade and that be..... 275 Cinnamon.

A Very Unlikely Competitor!

Okay, I wasn't expecting this to be anything different than other makeups that boast of similar claims.....and then I put it on.
Seriously, I could not believe, number one, that I had picked a perfect shade...if you're a chic like me, you know how hard that can be especially when you do it online.  I'm Caucasian/Hispanic and the Oak was a perfect shade.  It looked exactly like my face, but better.  It was a very surprising reveal of:

  • Even Tone
  • Perfect Blend
  • Great Flaw Coverage
  • Very Lightweight Like Not Even There....Seriously
  • Never Got Oily Throughout the Day

I live in Texas and right now it is very hot and humid.  I was outside in the sun, and this makeup never ran, it never smudged, it never got oily like many foundations was awesome.  I am in love!!!  When I saw the different ingredients in the foundation, I got a better understanding of why it not only applied easily, but gave me such great results.

What's in this stuff?

The Balm that's the Bomb!

I am a CLGA, Certified Lip Gloss I know about lip gloss, all kinds.  When I tell you this NatureLuxe Gloss Balm is awesome...I mean it's awesome.  If you've seen any of my previous reviews on lip products, you'll know that I dislike thick, sticky lip products that my hair sticks to or that comes off on everything.
The NatureLuxe Gloss Balm goes on so smooth, is so lightweight, such a great color variety, and a great look, I love, love, love it.  It wasn't sticky.  I even did the hair test ( just shake your hair around if it's long and see if it sticks to your lips....that's my hair test).  It's more sheer than lipstick which I prefer anyway.  This gloss also stays on for several hours, and when you do feel like maybe you could reapply more, it's not because you have a dried-up-lips feeling like you have to keep licking your's just because you're used to having to reapply around that time. :)  Some lipsticks/glosses I've noticed become dry which causes you to notice that you need to reapply.  The NatureLuxe doesn't do that.
So here are the facts on this awesome "Bomb" balm:

  • Combines the sheer color and shice of a gloss with the soft moisturization of a balm.
  • Available in 16 versatile, beautiful shades.
  • Formulated with SPF 15 for added protection
  • Contains a lightweight blend of mango, shea and other natural butters that 9 out of 10 make-up artists would recommend to clients for a sheer color with a non-sticky, lightweight feel.

Shades of NatureLuxe

Still not convinced?

Fortunately, in between creating amazing make-up looks for Dolce & Gabanna and Christian Dior shows, Pat McGrath was able to assist in the development of the NatureLuxe Covergirl Line in order to provide us not rich folks a chance at bein' purrty. Here's what she has to say about it:
"In make-up, we're seeing Luxe-Simplicity influence a light, fresh yet flawless look which is both luxurious and radiant; I call this the 'naturally polished' look. Think of a beautiful and radiant glow as if you've just been to a spa and have been pampering your skin. This is not a 'no make-up' look; this is full coverage yet naturally polished, a light yet confident look."

If you're looking for a great, affordable foundation that's not going to make you feel like you're wearing a mask or give you that dirty feeling when it turns oily, but still have great coverage,  I have a few coupons good until August 31, 2011 for $2.00 off of 1 NatureLuxe Foundation. If you would like one of these leave a comment or email me and be sure to type Covergirl Coupon in the subject line so I will see it easily. I will remove this section when they are all requested.

Thanks for the great review. I just fell in love with Covergirl's LashBlast and now I'm starting to think this brand might be good. I've looked at this line before and wondered about the results. Glad to hear it controls oil and provides great coverage. I didn't know Pat McGrath helped assist in the production. That's impressive. Thanks for the great information.

Hello Chris, they actually both have SPF. The foundation contains 10SPF and the lip gloss 15 SPF. I STILL use both of these as I haven't found anything I like better. Very lightweight.

I'm a life long Covergirl. Have tried lots of other brands (including the very expensive ones) and always end up back a Covergirl. I have very sensitive skin and find this works best.

    Great info!
