Rockport - A Buyers Guide

Updated on January 19, 2012

Rockport was established in 1971 and started with a simple philosophy: to design comfortable shoes using new, advanced technologies. They were the first brand to create performance walking comfort and casual dress shoes. Today, they continue to make style comfortable for their consumers around the world. The company philosophy is simply: walkability. Rockport aim to make the most walkable shoes in the industry and support this claim with their 30 Day Walkability Guarantee. The guarantee states that Rockport shoes are designed to work all day every day, they are so sure in this that if you are not completely satisfied you can have a full refund within 30 days. The company was founded by father and son Saul and Bruce Katz in 1971, 13 years later they were the first footwear manufacturer to receive the American Podiatric Medical Associations Seal of Acceptance. In 1985 they designed the ProWalker, the first biochemical fitness walking shoe. A year later they became the first company acquired by Reebok which led to The Rockport Walking Institute, an organisation created to educate consumers on the benefits of wearing the brand.

The Rockport collection is split into two categories: lifestyles and technologies. The lifestyles collection is designed to offer shoes that fit into your lifestyle. The Hydro- Sail is influenced by nautical style with an added modern twist. The trainer includes adiprene by Adidas which is highly shock absorbing cushioning which protects the heel at impact; it has been created with full grain leather which is durable, easy to clean and extends the life of your Rockport shoe. The polyurethane midsole offers durability for long term wear and shock absorbent cushioning helps reduce foot fatigue. The technology line includes the Janae collection, the Janae pump adds inches to your look without the pain of wearing sky scraping heels. Breathable polyurethane lines the toe area to resist moisture while a variety of suede and full grain textures catch the attention of all shoe lovers. Arch support in the midfoot and leather that conforms to the shape of your foot make that sexier look a practical reality. We especially love the Lola Pull on Boot, based on equestrian influences this boot is all about understated glamour. The detailing and sleek lines of the full grain leather exterior specially designed comfort technology from Adidas. In order for this boot to stay comfortable for longer an EVA cushion and adiprene technology has been built into the shoes heels and the outsole is made from rubber in order to provide a durable grip of a variety of surfaces.
