Rosehip Butter Soap for Rosacea (roh-zey-shee) Skin - The Making

Updated on August 8, 2017

Why create a Rosacea Soap?

This Rosehip Butter Facial & Body Soap was created in response to my sister’s rosacea skin problem and being one of the most frequently asked questions by my customers: What can you suggest that's gentle for people with sensitive, Rosacea skin? Since up to this time, there are still several theories out there as to what causes acne Rosacea to begin with, it's been a puzzle even for Doctors But one of the theories is that Rosacea is caused by a bacteria that gets under the skin...so...that was the approach I took for the creation of this rosacea care soap. This has been a challenge for me, for my sister’s face was always suffering from her sensitivity due to the many factors and most often her diet, the creams she used, the serum she decided to try to so on.

Let's start soap making!

Instructions:

Step 0 'HOT PROCESS': Ingredient Preparation: Weigh every ingredient.

Step 1 Weigh palm oil & stearic acid, combine in a microwave safe or heat safe pot, warm oils in the microwave or a double boiler to melt all solid oils.

234g Palm Oil (from sustainable source)

6g Stearic Acid

When melted, remove from the microwave or double boiler. Add in the other base oils. Then, pour on your crockpot set on 'High' and cover.

360g Virgin Olive Oil

300g Coconut Oil (VCO is preferred)

120g Castor Oil

60g Shea Butter (Organic Unrefined)

60g Cocoa Butter (Organic Unrefined)

60g Rosehip Oil (Organic is preferred)

Step 2 LYE Prep: Weigh out your lye.

Add Lye/Caustic Soda here-for LYE-Chamomile-Water Solution).

300g {50/50 – Cold Purified or Distilled Water/Chamomile Water or Chamomile Tea} - Stir until clear & all lye dissolved.

We don't need to cool the temperature of our Lye-Chamomile Solution, once all your base oils and butters are completely melted, proceed to the next step.

Step 3 The temperature of both OILS & LYE-Chamomile Water-Solution by this time should be in the same range. The temperature of new lye solution will rise up and this should give the same temperature on heated oils in your crock pot.

Step 4 Then, add Lye-Chamomile-Water Solution to your mixed oils in the soap pot. Stirring manually and stick blending in On & Off technique Bring to light trace.

Step 5 @ Light Trace, add in below, stirring manually and stick blending in On & Off technique (alternating this technique).

120g Chamomile Water + *Natural Preservatives

Step 6 Bring the soap mixture to TRACE. Cover your crock pot. This is the time where we neutralize our soap and wait for the 'Translucent Stage' to complete. Your soap mixture will turn from opaque to translucent.

Do not leave your cooking soap, in just a matter of minutes it will rise up and if unattended you'll end up with soap mixture all over your work counter. Check once in a while a give it a stir, and cover, stir, cover until translucent stage is done.

Step 7 Upon reaching the neutral stage (translucent stage), turn crock pot on LOW and add in the following, mix well then turn crock pot OFF.

19g Lemongrass Essential Oil

6g Tea Tree Essential Oil

5g Peppermint Essential Oil

Step 8 Glop on your mould and cover.

Step 10 Unmould after 24 hours or as soon as the soap is no longer hot. Cut, stamp if desired, and let cure for 4-6 weeks. Your soap can actually be used right away, but the longer it cures, the milder and economical your soap bars will be.
