Not cool, sagging is a total lack of respect.
Not cool, sagging is a total lack of respect.
What looks so cool about this fashion statement?
What looks so cool about this fashion statement?

I'm not prude! I'm not a religious nut! I am however a mother and can't stand seeing the young boys, or my teenage son wearing their pants below their butt. Boxers or not, this look is not attractive. The term waistband, means around the waist. If your pants were meant to be worn around your butt or below your butt, the waistband would be called a buttband or belowthebuttband.

Who started this fashion disaster? I have read that this so called style originated in the prison system. Prisoners were issued a one size fits all prison uniform, regardless of their shape or size. So some would be wearing their pants below their butts, and some across the middle of their butts. Reports also indicate that some gang members would wear their pants like this to indicate they had spent time in prison.

How did this so called sagging style spread so fast and so far? Well popular Hip Hop stars and Rappers also adopted this fashion disaster. Therefor our younger generation automatically assume that this is the cool and in way to dress.

My son will say its because he does not want to feel bound up. This I can understand, so buy them one size to big for extra room. But, if you have a 30" waist, you don't need a 38" waist on your jeans. So Listen up fashion and clothing designers, make your pants with a long crotch, so these young men can wear their pants above their butts and be comfortable.

Now, if you yourself dress like this or you know someone who does, I want you or them to stand in front of a mirror and take a good look at yourself. Notice how it makes you look as if your torso is to long for your body and your legs are very short. Also notice how you have to walk with your legs spread wider than you shoulder width to help keep your pants up. If you really think about it you have great difficulty doing the simple task of shopping because you don't have use of both your hands as one is always holding up your pants.

Even our current President Obama has stated he does not want to pass a law or anything, but he also does not want to see your underwear. Obama said that he thinks laws that outlaw people wearing sagging pants "are a waste of time."

"Having said that, brothers should pull up their pants," Obama continued. "You are walking by your mother, your grandmother, your underwear is showing. What's wrong with that? Come on.

"There are some issues that we face, that you don't have to pass a law, but that doesn't mean folks can't have some sense and some respect for other people and, you know, some people might not want to see your underwear -- I'm one of them."

So here it goes guys, set your own standard. You don't have to disrespect yourself or others for the sake of a fashion that no one truly likes. It kinda makes you out to look like a junior refrigerator repairman. You know the guy you want to tell "crack kills", that's you in a nut shell.

Sagging, baggy, ultra low rise what ever name you choose to use, you know you have to admit to yourself this is one of the worst fashion disasters ever to take over an era.

Speaking of low rise jeans, girls no one (OK most people) don't want to see your thong (butt floss) or your butt crack either. Please, please wear pants designed for your body type. Enough said!

I don't like to wear my pant like this but trust me most youngsters love them. I've seen a lot even in my country here, not just US.

Let's face it, it just looks extremely silly. And shirtless - *very* common, like the tattooed English working class you see driving white vans in London.

Let me address a few of your questions.

First of all, fashion trends are almost always set by celebrities. In this case, Marky Mark made sagging a popular fashion statement. Since he had a near perfect body, the idea behind sagging was to simultaneously show off your pecs and abs, while tacitly stating that since my pants are almost off, let's get it on. I'm not saying that Wahlberg invented the concept, but I am DEFINITELY saying that he is the one who caused millions of teen guys to walk around with their pants almost off.

Today, most teen girls think it's sexy for a hot young muscular dude walk around shirtless and have his pants slung low. Its a cocky statement on the part of the guy, and girls love that sense of confidence. Most of the young men who wear their pants SUPER low are making a statement that they can have sex whenever they want it. And they do. So in the final analysis, it doesn't matter ow or when it started, but Marky Mark made it widespread when he flaunted his muscles, flexed his biceps, bounced his pecs, and drove the ladies nuts with his sagging jeans.
