- Live Simple: Frugal Living Tips For Parents
Here are some great tips on saving money for the parents out there.
My older daughter, who is 3 years old, just recently started pre-school was given a calendar with a list of colored clothing she would need to wear for the next 2 months. My assumption on this is that they will be learning their colors through these colored themed days. However, I now had to search out the seven separate colored themed outfits (yes seven!).
This is a lot of clothing and if you are not familiar with shopping for children, where would you begin? Even though I am expert at children’s clothing shopping being a mother of two small girls (16 months apart), I still spent a considerable amount of time shopping for these items, why because I was searching for the best prices, as well as the nicest clothing options too.
This truly is all all about getting the best bang for my buck and reminds me of all the advice on Frugal Living given out so generously by Billybuc.
So where did I begin? Here I will list and give a breakdown on the best stores to indeed shop for children’s clothing now and all year long (especially in time for this year's holiday season shopping too!).
Table of Contents: Shopping for Children's Clothing--The Top 5 Stores
- The Children's Place | Baby, Big Girls & Big Boys Clothes, Kids Shoes, Clothing & School Uni
Shop for children's clothing ranging from baby clothes to big boy and big girl clothing including shoes, shirts, pants, jeans, dresses, school uniforms and more online with The Children's Place.
1. The Children’s Place
Honestly this one is no brainer. Look at the title, which pretty much sums it up. This store is a store for and dedicated to Children from infant stage to elementary school age kids too. The more you frequent this store, the more one saves. They are constantly generating 20% coupons if you are a valued shopper, as well as if you have the “Place Card” and use it to pay, you get either 5% or 10% extra off. Also, it would seem that if you are a “Black Friday Shopper” (the annual kickoff to the holiday shopping season on the day after Thanksgiving), this store gives its shoppers on this day 30% off their merchandise and then you are also allowed to use your regular 20% off coupons, plus the extra 5% or 10% on your Place Card too, so the discounts on this one day alone are totally worth it. Last year, I did take advantage of this sale and got my younger daughter a whole wardrobe for under $35 (she is actually born right around this time of year so I had gift certificates to use there).
- Old Navy
Oldnavy.com provides the latest fashions at great prices for the whole family. Shop Men's, Women's and Kids' departments, Womens Plus, and clothing for baby and maternity wear. Also find big and tall sizes for adults and extended sizes for kids. Enjo
2. Old Navy
This store has clothes for the whole family (infants and kids of all age included too) at a discounted price to begin with. Then if you are a Gap Card member (The Gap owns this company), you get all sorts of coupons, such as 20% - 25% off, plus every few months they also they run a Friends and Family Weekend, where you are afforded 30% off. You need to read your coupons and e-mails, because they have specials and sales frequently. Being that I often shop here, I read one of my e-mails like I mentioned and even scored bathing suits this past summer one Saturday morning (a limited one day sale) for $6 each for my girls. Truly a great deal and again it pays to keep up to date with your correspondence from them.
- Target.com : Furniture, Baby, Electronics, Toys
Expect more pay less with Target. Spend $50, get free shipping on over 500K items. Choose from a wide selection of furniture, baby, electronics, toys, shoes, c
Target also has clothing for the whole family and often runs sales, but they have a weekly circular, which will tell you everything you need to know. Even if you buy something and it goes on sale in the following week, you can have the price adjusted, as long as you keep your receipt as proof of purchase. The other nice bonus of shopping at Target is “The Red Card”, which if used on purchases will allow you 5% off each and every purchase. Also, on some sales, you may get gift cards to use for future purchases. These deals are run on diapers, wipes and even formula, which I used many at time over the last few years, but now am only down to diapers and wipes for my younger daughter, but still the sales are always a help. Plus, they also send coupon books from time to time for extra savings on your Target purchases.
- Babies R Us - Baby Registry, Baby Gifts, Car Seats, Strollers & More
Babies"R"Us is the leading retailer with baby registry of strollers, car seats, baby gear, cribs, baby furniture, baby bedding, diapers, formula & more.
4. Babies R Us
This store is where it truly starts for mom, when they first are pregnant and planning a shower for their registry. So many a moms still do shop here even as their babies are indeed growing for baby items, as well as clothing for their babies and then toddler aged kids too. This store also has sales and sends out monthly flyers with promotions and coupons. Also if you are a frequent shopper, they have a rewards program that as you spend more, you receive coupons for further savings too. I have to be honest and tell you I have not shopped here as much now that my girls are in the pre-school and toddler aged too, but have switched over to their sister store, Toys R Us (for toys of course). But still Babies R Us is a great store for moms to shop in for their kids clothing needs.
- Kohl's | Shop Clothing, Shoes, Home, Kitchen, Bedding, Toys & More
Expect Great Things when you shop Kohl?s for apparel, shoes, accessories, home products and more! Find top brands at great prices at Kohl?s today!
Kohl’s is more of a department store that is for the whole family. This store also has a weekly advertisement with sales and specials. They also afford Kohl’s Cash, which pretty much means that for so much money you spend, you get money back. An example of this is for every $50, you spend you get back another $10. This is a store, I seem to frequent more around the holiday time and seem to get better cash back deals around this time as well, but those in my family who do shop there for kids do swear by this store.
Summing It Up...
So back to the original dilemma of trying to find those colored shirts. Which store was able to afford me the best for the price. Believe it or not, it was Children’s Place and Old Navy came in second here. However, I did make a day of shopping for these colored item clothing and was at all of these stores at one point in this one day. These stores all did have good deals, but for what I needed and the price, I have to be honest and tell you Children’s Place was by far the best out of the lot. And by the way, I was told on the down low that, they will indeed be running their Black Friday Sale, so I am truly a happy camper on this one.
