Soap&Glory Sexy XL Mother Pucker
Kylie Jenner's 'naturally' plump lips have sparked a global phenomenon for desiring a full and luscious pair of suckers. Therefore, when a product comes around that claims to give us everything we want without the commitment (and price tag) of semi-permanent lip fillers, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity? Certainly not me.
During my most recent visit to Mecca Maxima, I picked up the Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme Plump Collagen Lip Gloss (what a name !) for about $20 AUD ($15.10 USD, £10.70 GBP) and I must say I had high hopes for this product. The gloss comes in clear and nude, I chose the nude so I could put it over other lipsticks to add a glossy finish without changing the colour.
The packaging is nothing special - just a plain silver tube with redish/pinky writing on it. Under the cap is a plain slanted applicator.
The product itself claims to be infused with natural plant oils and collagen to add a 'plumping, buzzing, tingling and zinging' feeling on your lips - which is no lie !
Below I have taken photos before application, immediately after application, after 1 / 5 / 10 minutes to compare and understand the effectiveness of this product.
The texture of the gloss is slightly sticky and doesn't hydrate or make my lips feel smooth when I rub them together. However, I do have naturally very dry lips and lip products other than Chapstick normally dry them out.
I'm not overly sensitive to its taste, however, my sister has told me it tastes awful. To me it smells and tastes slightly of honey that has a strange background flavour to it.
Here are my lips with none of the gloss on, I took this photo immediately before applying the plumper.
Here is a photo taken straight after I applied the gloss. I don't know why my lips look so uneven here compared to the photo above but it wasn't from the gloss. My lips look like this in the rest of the photos. I don't like this about my lips and when I'm older (and have money) I might look into getting fillers.
After one minute of the gloss, the inner part of the lips tingles slightly but the intensity will only continue. I don't think my lips have gotten much bigger, maybe only slightly plumper but that may only be due to a slightly different angle of the camera.
I prefer how my lips look in this picture. I feel as if they did get slightly 'bigger', or maybe that is only because of the intense tingling that encompasses your entire lips. It may also be due to different lighting which has caught the gloss and thus making them look plumper.
Please ignore the fact that my lips look more lop-sided than the Leaning Tower of Pisa and see that my lips when compared right next to my lips immediately after the application aren't hugely improved. I feel this product makes your lips tingle intensely and thus only makes you think your lips are swelling.
All together, I think 'plumping' glosses seem a little bit of a scam. But different products work different on different people, so if you want to try it out feel free and let me know how you go.
