Sorel - A Buyer's Guide
The overall strategy of footwear mogul Sorel has taken a dramatic change in direction. Previously the brand supplied footwear to tire shops and farm supply stores but now the shoes take a sleek and sexy form and are set to be huge in Autumn/Winter 2011. This hub provides a teaser for what to expect this winter.
About the Brand
The Sorel brand was traditionally popular in Canada for its high quality and warmth. At its core, the boots feature vulcanized rubber, leather uppers and wool lining. They were originally sold through a disparate array of channels, from traditional winter footwear retailers to tire shops and farm supply stores. However, today Sorel have incorporated a whole new dimension to its brand. To celebrate the modernized, glamorous side of Sorel they took part in a two page ad in Vogue magazine featuring models wearing a much sexier, sleeker version of Sorel’s.
Featuring product names such as “Helen of Tundra” and “Joan of Arctic,” the new Sorel products maintained some of the fur-lined, vulcanized look of the traditional product, but in a sexier calf-length boot and in a variety of colors and patterns. Sorel have planned to lengthen the shelf life of Sorel beyond the traditional winter months by adding a spring line features Sorel sneakers for both men and women.
To show off their new winter lines Sorel hosted a release party. By looking at the pictures below it is evident Sorel are doing an excellent job of capturing current trends and gathering hot inspiration to vamp up their already trusty and classic product offerings.
Sorel shoes come in a variety of different colours and styles. Women’s styles include the Sentry Slip which is inspired by a 1980’s snowboard boot. The shoe features many old school elements included a waxed canvas upper, contrast stitching and Sorel’s iconic rubber toe. Another best selling style is the Joan of Arctic Boot as seen on Elle Macpherson. This boot combines Sorel’s celebrated cold-weather performance with a stylish design that’s as smart on urban streets as it is warm in a deep snowpack. Another favourite with celebrities is the Glacier boot, it features a built in gator to lock out snow and it designed to meet the challenges of extreme cold with a durable PU backed synthetic upper that’s water and wind resistant to repel all forms of frozen precipitation.
In terms of Men’s styles a particular best seller is the Caribou boot as seen on Justin Timberlake. Sorel describe this boot as the ‘original and the best’. Since 1972, the Sorel Caribou has earned its reputation for warmth, durability and comfort the hard way: by protecting the feet of millions of Sorel customers through deep snow, harsh storms and the biting cold of long winters. The Caribou is available in a variety of styles including wool, stingray and reserve. Another Men’s favourite is the Chesterman which is available in chukka, holiday chukka, holiday slip and holiday sneaker. Sporting a skate shoe/snowboard vibe, they feature a cool water-resistant upper that looks just like corduroy, but is actually durable textured leather.
