Spas Tubs - Garden Hot Tubs

Updated on June 30, 2011

What are Garden Hot Tubs?

The human body has always had a tendency to want warmth. We find it anywhere we can: from heaters, blankets, each other. And of course warm water. Since time began the idea of a hot tub has always existed. Hot springs used to rule the land, the primitive beings which roamed it finding solace in the hidden enclaves; electricity was invented, and with that came warm water. And after that, well, you could say it was history.

The last century has seen the evolution of hot water. It started with having a hot bath, to having a hot shower, and now its having a device that's sole purpose is to always be hot - a hot tub. Hot tubs can be anywhere - inside, on the deck, on the roof, in the bathroom. A garden hot tub is exactly how it sounds - it's in the garden. The idea is is that a garden hot tub will be more reclusive and solitary; a garden hot tub will be a spa tub which is almost one with nature, perhaps more like a hot spring than a man made device.

Just imagine: Sitting outside, surrounded by trees, flowers, vines. You're sitting in a small tub which is surrounded by all of this. You feel warm. You feel comfortable. You feel... at home.

That's what a garden hot tub is - an extension of home in the wilderness via a spa tub.

Hot Tub Pools

If you're really feeling adventurous maybe look at getting a hot tub pool.

Imagine swimming in warm water, the stars above you, nature around you. It's the ultimate garden hot tub experience.

Home Hot Tubs

A garden hot tub, when it really comes down to it, is a spa tub which is at home; maybe a better name for a garden hot tub then is a home hot tub. It's an extension of your home in the garden anyways.

There are many different designs and ways to go about on building a garden hot tub. Many people go for the ceder or redwood look for the frame of the hot tub, making almost blend in with the surrounding garden; many people also build the hot tub in the ground, thus making it look like a natural hot spring. In either case a garden hot tub is built to look like it belongs out in nature, and not in some bathroom.

Some things to take into account when looking at garden hot tubs:

  • What kind of insulation can you get around the hot tub? Can it be buried in the soil? Is it surrounded by tall, lush trees?
  • Make sure the space chosen allows a decent cover to be used; this keeps the heat in and is essential for having a good garden hot tub.
  • If it's out in the garden it's probably away from electrical outlets. This means you should maybe consider getting a renewable energy source, such as solar or wind. It will make your hot tub both efficient and ever green.
  • Any animals that frequent the garden should be taken into account. You don't want any deer chewing on an garden hot tubs wires.
  • Price. Garden hot tubs range from all sorts of prices. Go for quality water and heating first, before a funky looking design.

Spa Tubs and Garden Hot Tubs - The Verdict

In the end when it comes to shopping garden hot tubs, make sure you know what you are looking for.  Know where the hot tub is going to be built - is it going to be on the deck, inside, or in the garden.  Know your price range and then go from there; remember you don't need to spend a lot of money to get a quality hot tub.  The higher prices are usually just the same as the cheap hot tubs, except they may have more jets or one or two lounge chairs.

Prices also vary from different hot tub stores, so shop around.  Try and bargain, and try, when purcahsing hot tub, to get free installation or any other free add ons.  In most cases, they will.

I live in a very remote area and recently put a hot tub in my backyard. I do not think that it could be more relaxing! I love being in there around sunset or even when it is lightly snowing. It truly is tranquil.
