Style Guide For Men's Levis Jeans

Updated on September 16, 2012

Know The Style That Is Right For You

Don't you notice when someone looks good in a pair of jeans? And don't you notice when someone looks awful in a pair of jeans? What's the difference? Its all about choosing the right style for your body and for the fashion you want to wear. In this hub we're going to break down some of the different styles that Levi's has for men. If you want to look your best in a pair of jeans, you've got to make sure you know what style to buy.

Levis 501

Levis 501 is the orignal style of jeans. Its the classic blue jean cut. They sit even on your waist, no low cut. They have a practical, comfortable amount of room in the legs and thighs and seat. They aren't slim, they aren't baggy. They're just right. This is the core style that all other jeans are derived from. The 501s are good for just about any body type and size, and can be worn in just about every type of environment. But classic can always be improved upon by specializing. And Levis has done so by largely adding and subtracting denim to create new styles.

Levis 511

The Levis 511 style is Levis brand of skinny jeans. Skinny jeans have dramatically less room in the seat and the thighs, shrinking down to a tiny leg opening. They are best for men with a slim build. If you have an athletic cut or are overweight, do not buy skinny jeans. They won't fit right and you won't look good in them. Skinny jeans aren't the most comfortable, but they are very stylish right now. If you have a thin build, skinny jeans will accentuate the look, and provide a more stylish addition to your wardrobe.

Levis 514

Levis 514s are called slim straights. They have a straight leg with a slightly smaller leg opening then the 501s. They are slim, with less material through the thigh and hip then the 501s, but significantly more then the 511s. The 514s are a very good option for men who are not slim, and want to get on board the current trend of trim clothing. But the 514s aren't just for the average build, men who have large waist sizes will find the reduced amount of denim in the rear and thigh helps avoid that overly baggy look, making a man look heavier then he is. The 514s sacrifice a bit of loose fitting comfort for a more streamlined, stylish look.

Levis 550 Relaxed Fit

The Levis 550 Relaxed Fit jeans are for men who are looking for comfort first and foremost. The 550s are similar to the 501s, but have more room in the seat and thighs, maximizing comfort and flexibility. They are practical jeans, durable and comfortable at the same time. They aren't trendy, and can run a bit baggy, but that is what you are looking for when you buy the 550s. Men with slight builds will find the 550s too relaxed, and may have a hard time keeping them up. But men with a larger build will find the 550s to be very comfortable, while still retaining that classic look of Levis jeans.

Always Buy Online

No matter which style is right for you, the best place to get jeans is online. This site,, is a guide to the better online retailers. Without a doubt, you'll get a much larger selection of colors and sizes online then you will in a mall store. You'll also likely pay less, without having to shop sales or use coupons. And make sure to buy from an online retailer that uses free returns if you're not sure about what size you are.
