Suffering from acne, eczema, warts or skin ulcers? Try colloidal silver!

Updated on April 22, 2016

‘Colloidal silver’ refers to tiny particles of silver, usually in the size range of 2-10 nanometres (often called nano-silver), suspended in a liquid or a colloidal base. Colloidal silver was commonly used as a medicament in Europe and the United Stated in the 20-40s of the last century. Once the antibiotics were invented and promoted as a panacea, the interest in colloidal silver has dropped significantly.

However, in the recent years, colloidal silver has managed to regain public interest. This was because some scientists, medical practitioners and patients claimed colloidal silver can combat such serious conditions, as: cancer, HIV or Lyme disease. At present, the scientific evidence on these matters is fragmented and numerous clinical studies shall be carried out until we can obtain a fuller picture.

This article focuses on the scientifically proven abilities of colloidal silver to kill bacteria, fungi and viruses and its application in treatment of common skin ailments, such as acne, eczema, warts, inflammations and others.

How colloidal silver can help with acne and other skin problems?

How colloidal silver can help to fight acne? It can destroy bacteria causing it.

Acne occurs when the sebaceous glands of the skin produce excessive amount of oil, as result of increased androgens activity in both males and females. This process is accompanied by an increase in the flaking of the skin lining the hair follicles. As a result, the skin pores get blocked by the peeling skin and sebum.

The bacteria responsible for causing acne, Propionibacterum acne (P. acnes) normally live on the skin surface. They grows on the mixture of oil and cells in the hair follicles. The bacteria produce chemicals that stimulate inflammations resulting in various forms of acne lesions: pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, etc. Often, other bacteria invade acne lesions causing secondary infections that can be even more serious.

Colloidal silver destroys P. acnes, as well as numerous other pathogens living on the skin surface. It also removes the excess of sebum that blocks the pores and enabling P. acne to grow.

Colloidal silver is also effective in other common skin ailments. The mechanism is simple but effective: it kills the pathogens that cause or aggravate the condition and deeply cleanses the skin stopping the infections from re-occurring. According to Dr. James F. Balch, colloidal silver has been proven to kill 650 species of pathogens, including bacteria, fungi and even viruses.

Below, you can see a test carried out to illustrate colloidal silver’s antibacterial properties.

Is colloidal silver safe?

Yes it is. Colloidal silver is even applied to open wounds and on skin burns to prevent bacterial, fungal and viral infections. The silver nano-particles kill the germs, while leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. This is why there is no unpleasant stinging sensation when colloidal silver solution is applied on the sore.

Colloidal silver is used for skin treatment in the mainstream medicine. For example, in the United Kingdom, silver-based dressing are recommended and widely used by the National Health Service in the treatment of infections in burns, chronic wounds, such as leg ulcers, and surgical wounds. The treatment is safe and well-documented in a scientific literature.

However, there are few exceptions:

  • Do not apply colloidal silver on skin if you are allergic to silver
  • If you are pregnant, breast-feeding or suffering from any chronic illness, consult the treatment with your doctor.

Colloidal silver skincare products – what is available?

The simplest product is colloidal silver water, which is a mixture of aqua and colloidal silver nano-particles. Such a mixture can be used as any other skin tonic – just place a couple of drops of the solution on a cosmetic pad and wipe the skin avoiding the area of eyes.

The best results are achieved when the solution is applied twice a day: in the morning and at the end of the day. Colloidal silver tonic effectively cleanses the skin surface from bacteria, fungi and other impurities. It also removes the excess of sebum, leaving skin looking matte. Remember not to expose your skin directly to the sun after applying colloidal silver on.

Those suffering from acne are advised to apply colloidal silver solution even four times a day – first rinse the face and after each rinse apply solution onto the most affected areas. A skin massage with a piece of cotton or tissue is also recommended. The described treatment can be applied as a precautionary measure, preventing an acne breakout.

Many people find it practical to carry a small (50 or 100 ml) bottle of colloidal silver solution with them to school, uni, or work, so that they can carry on with the routine throughout a day.

If suffering from skin rash or eczema, you may apply a few drops of colloidal silver water on the affected skin area a couple of times during a day. You can also bandage the area with the dressing moist with the solution. Change the bandage on a daily basis of more often. The same treatment can be applied on warts or ringworms, to make them disappear. Once you stick to your routine, you should see the effects very quickly.

Bottle containing colloidal silver solution should be kept in a shaded place

Colloidal silver water is sold in bottles of various sizes (quantities) and colloidal silver concentration, usually from 10PPM (particles per million) to even 50 PPM (the higher PPM value, the higher concentration of colloidal silver nano-particles). Always buy your colloidal silver from a trusted source. Also remember to keep the bottle in a shaded place.

Cosmetics containing colloidal silver are also available in a form of ointments, serums, sprays, creams or gels, soaps and also – in combination with natural clays, as masks. Some of the colloidal silver-based acne treatments have been even patented, as they are believed to be so effective and unique!

Colloidal silver soap - silver particles are suspended in natural glycerine

Although an extremely effective bacteria and fungi-killer, colloidal silver, should not be treated as a miraculous solution for all skin problems. The battle against acne, dermatitis, psoriasis or other skin ailments should be supported by a well-balanced diet (avoiding fats and sugar is extremely important) and healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise that improve blood circulation in the skin and enhancing the immune system.

I ordered some with the concentration of 50 ppm. As I have been reading more I'm getting the idea that I should change it out for a lower concentration. Any thoughts on this???

lenalena2013...There are many videos on this subject and they are very explicative on youtube. The colloidal generator is very easy to make using JUST batteries and .9999 silver rods. Your welcome, by the way. Good luck!

Thank you Bigmag47 for your comment and the instruction. I buy colloidal silver water as for now, but maybe one day I will start making it on my own, using your guidance!!

Very easy to make. I make mine with two .9999 fine silver rods (12 gauge) attach one lead of 4 nine volt batteries connected in series to one rod the other lead to the other rod. Both rods suspended in distilled,(and it must be distilled) water for about 4 hours. A red laser will clue you in around the approximate time limit by shining it thru the jar, if you see a red line from the laser in the water, it`s done. A particle meter will give an exact reading on the amount of nano-particles. It work GREAT!

Good luck on your colloidal silver. It`s better than ANY antibiotic on the market, and germs don`t build an immunity to it like regular antibiotics.

The video didn't explain so much why it works but colloidal silver kills pathogens, yeasts and molds on contact and stays active for a long time. That's why the milk wouldn't clot with the colloidal silver in it like those 2 samples infected with spores from the air. The device to produce Colloidal silver is extremely easy to make and the pure silver diodes can be made with a "Pure .999 silver coin, also called a "One ounce round of silver. "DO NOT" use a 90% pre-1964 silver coin which is not pure." You can purchase this pure silver at a coin shop for a couple of bucks over the daily silver price. You then have a jeweler cut the pure coin in two and roll out into two or more long strips. You can buy a testing unit to test your solution strength for about $20 on Amazon. The unit to produce colloidal silver can be made from a simple 1/2 to 1 amp DC converter that came with any old answering machines, stereo's, fax machines etc. etc. I got one at the swap meet for a buck and with a couple of wires attached to alligator clips, and then to the silver strips, then set in "distilled water" (without the silver touching. The silver transfers electronically from the strips into the distilled water.) You can make a quart of 20 part per million solution in less than 24 hours. I'm sure there's plenty of instructions on the internet and on youtube for more exact instructions. Best investment money can buy especially when you need a topical antibiotic in a hurry at almost zero cost. BTW did you know that they are now making sports wear with silver thread, because the silver impregnated thread kills the bacteria that causes sweat to smell? Pretty cool.

Thank you Lisa for commenting and sharing your experience. My first contact with colloidal silver was over 15 years ago, when my grandfather suffered from cancer and was prescribed silver as a complementary therapy. I live in the UK and in the European Union colloidal silver solutions meant for internal use are not allowed to be sold on the open market. This is a shame. But you can still buy skin tonics.

The effectiveness of colloidal silver is amazing. Bought some to help cleanse my system of yeast after taking regular antibiotics that screwed up my system . As an unforeseen benefit, it rid me of vulvadynia I had been suffering with for over a decade. And all it took was an ounce a day for 4 days . I was so pleasantly surprised that it worked . I am a huge supporter of colloidal silver. Colloidal copper also works good on the skin when sprayed on the skin!
