Supplements to improve health of skin and your confidence

Updated on April 14, 2012

All sorts of skin disorders can affect our confidence including acne, stretch marks and cellulite.

The skin is a connective tissue and requires a healthy blood supply and nutrients to maintain its health. Many people can use supplements to improve the health of their connective tissue.

Amino Acids are the building blocks of collagen and elastin. There fore the diet must include amino acids in substantial amounts to maintain and repair this connective tissue. Most people get enough via their normal diet but many people have problems digesting proteins and supplementation with beatine hcl may improve protein digestion. Minerals are essential cofactors in the production of collagen and elastin and are missing in many modern diets. Therefore a complete mineral supplementation is recommended

The supplement I have used that greatly improved the health of my skin is Vitamin C. Whilst found in many foods especially fruits it is water soluble and cannot be stored by the body. Along with amino acids proline and lysine vitamin c is used to make procollagen. Procollagen is the used to make all the different types of collagen found in the body. Type I collagen is found in the skin.

Cod Liver Oil is highly beneficial to improve health of the skin. As well as including essential fatty acids missing from most people's modern diet cod liver oil is a wonderful source of vitamin A and E and D which are absouletly essential for the skin. The fatty acids will also moisturise the skin and reduce skin inflammation. Cod liver oil as many health benefits.

Gotu kola is a herb that as been shown in scientific trials to improve health of skin. It increases the production of collagen, stimulates blood circulation to skin and is an antioxidant.

MSM is an organic source of sulphur. MSM makes cells more permeable to allow nutrients and water to flow easily across cells and toxins out of cells. Without adequate levels of MSM healthy tissue maintenance is disrupted symptoms include wrinkles, joint problems, scar tissue. MSM prevents prevents unwanted physical and chemical bonding of collagen that is responsible for aging skin. Sulphur is needed by the body to produce collagen. MSM is usually found in natural food sources via the sulphur diet. However heavy farming and poor diet have reduced amounts found naturally in foods.

Not only will MSM maintain skin it encourages the repair of damaged skin cells that are seen in wrinkles and stretch marks.
