The Best Heat Protectant Spray for Hair Straightening

Updated on September 23, 2015

When you are straightening your hair the heat protecting spray you use to protect your hair is more important than the hair straightener you use. Heat protector spray guards your hair from heat while allowing you to keep your hair healthy while maintaining the sleek straight hair you love. Without using a good heat protecting spray your hair may look good right after drying or straightening but in the long term it will end up frizzy and damaged.

Heat protector spray can assist in keeping your hear shiny and smooth throughout the day. There are many factors to consider when choosing a heat protectant spray: below I have reviewed some of the most common heat sprays on the market.

Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray

Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray is one of the best hair protector sprays available on a budget. This protector has all the properties of an expensive salon brand but is affordable. You can pick up this heat spray at your local drugstore or on Amazon.

Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray protects your hair and also keeps it looking shiny and clean by conditioning it. Unlike some other heat protecting sprays this product leaves your hair feeling light and fluffy opposed to heavy or sticky. Also it has a very pleasant fruit smell to it.

Tresemme Thermal Creations Straightening Gel

Tresemme Thermal Creations Straightening Gel is an amazing hair protectant product and is very affordable. Like the Tresemme hair straightening spray this protector has all the properties of a expensive salon brand at a great low price. You can pick up this heat spray at your local drugstore or on Amazon for under $10.

I am a big fan of this product because it is in gel form which makes it easy to evenly apply to damp hair, no more guesswork or mess of spray products. This hair straightening gel is designed to cut down on time taken to straighten hair and makes the straightening process more efficient while protecting hair from the harsh heat of straighteners. It is recommended to use this product with a blow dryer for best results however it works great in combination with a flat iron as well/

Nexxus Heat Protexx Heat Protection Styling Spray

Nexxus Heat Protexx Heat Protection Styling Spray is one of the higher end heat protector sprays that can be obtained on a budget. This Nexxus product adds a lot of shine compared to other hair straighteners. Like other high end heat protecting spray this product will keep your hair light and fluffy and will not weigh it down. This heat protectant spray does not have much fragrance, so if you are looking for a heat protectant spray with a neutral smell this one is for you.

This is a great hair heat protectant to use if you have straight hair that tends to frizz. This spray helps dramatically cut down on frizzy hair which can sometimes pop up even after straightening hair without using the aid of a heat protectant spray.

Overall this Nexxus heat protecting spray for hair straightening a blow drying is one of the higher end sprays you can get on a budget and is praised by it's users for keeping their hair sleek and shiny.

Redken Iron Silk 07 Ultra Straightening Spray

Redken Iron Silk 07 Ultra Straightening Spray helps keep your hair strong and protects it while you straighten your hair. This product has a nice smell to it like the Tresemme product. This product can weigh down fine hair though if sprayed at the root so I don't not recommend using it if you have very thin or fine hair. Although it can weigh hair down it will not leave your hair sticky or greasy like some hair straightening aid products.

Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Perfector Straightening Mist

If you are looking to use a heat protectant spray but don't want to spend a lot of money on a extra item for your beauty arsenal Garnier Frutictis product will be great for you. The Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Flat Iron Perfector Straightening Mist is a "lower end" hair straightening spray but is a great addition to this list because it is cost effective while still protecting your hair, keeping it strong and smooth. Although this hair straightner is cheap it still receives great reviews from users and keeps hair smooth and straight for up to 48 hours.

Why use a heat protectant spray?

  • Heat protectant sprays act as a buffer between your hair and heat. You wouldn't grab a pan without a potholder right? Then why would you apply extreme heat to your hair without a buffer.
  • They can speed up the time it takes to straighten hair.
  • Heat protectant sprays help keep hair straight longer.
  • Heat protectant sprays add extra nutrients and vitamins to hair.
  • No more burnt hair smell. Heat protectant sprays add a great smell to hair.

Using a heat protection spray during hair straightening while using a flat iron or blow dryer can benefit you whether you have thin, thick, frizzy, curly or whatever type of hair. Heat protectant products will protect your hair from the damaging effects of heat as well as nourish it and keep it straighter longer. With the affordability of these products - some of them costing under $10 - there is no reason not to use protecting heat spray while straightening your hair.

Don't risk your hair's health by skipping a quick step such as using a heat protectant spray or gel. With all these products under $25 you can protect one of your most beautiful beauty features while nurturing your hair and keeping it straight, shiny and sleek for longer.

While straight hair is sleek and chic, it can easily get damaged from heated styling products... Heat protection spray for hair is vital if you want to keep you luscious locks looking healthy and vibrant.

Thanks for this, I've heard a lot about tresseme products lately. I suggest adding one to your list though, lol. I use one called pro naturals moroccan argan oil heat protectant and it's the best ever, if anyone has really frizzy hair then this one is what you need before straightening. :)
