The Best Korean BB Creams

Updated on January 7, 2013

In recent years, American companies have tried to cash-in on the Korea BB cream craze. BB Cream, known as "Blemish Balm" or "Beauty Balm" in America, are the hottest thing in Asia right now. They're an all-in-one makeup which conceals, acts as a makeup base and provides light to medium coverage. It does not offer the coverage of a foundation, however, it is much better for your skin. If you have sensitive skin or do not need heavy coverage from a foundation, BB cream may very well be the product you've been looking for.

Note that Korean BB creams are made for light to medium skin tones. Those with darker skin will need to try an American version.

Skin 79

The Skin 79 "Hot Pink" BB Cream is the gold standard among many users. This is a cream that BB lovers around the world pick as their go-to product. There is a good reason for that: it works. The cream itself comes out thick and can be easily applied to the areas you need to use it on. Some are alarmed at first because the cream leaves a grey tint on the face, however, as soon as the cream oxidizes, nobody would ever be able to tell you're wearing makeup!

This is a product I keep on-hand. I love this cream and no matter what other ones I try, this is one I always go back to. I've purchased multiple tubes of this BB cream. It is easily available and you can get it for around $15 USD.

Etude House BB Magic

This cream comes in two varieties: one for oily skin and one for normal or dry skin. I personally have used the oily skin one since I am prone to acne. This is actually the very first BB cream I ever used! It is from the popular brand Etude House, which makes incredibly cute and trendy products and is a top brand in Korea.

The texture of the cream is a lot thinner than the Skin 79 Hot Pink, which makes it a bit easier to apply. It also does not go on grey. However, it seems to be slightly darker and it makes my face a different color than my neck if I do not blend it. I really like this cream because it does not make my skin oily, however, the Skin 79 does blend in better. However, this is a great product if you do not want a thick cream or have ultra oily skin.

Lioele Dollish BB Cream

The Dollish cream is interesting because it comes in two colors - green and purple. The cream itself comes out as the indicated color. When you apply it, you'll see the purple or green on your skin, however, as you blend it it turns into a natural beige color which blends. It does oxidize into a darker beige color, so it is not very good if you have ultra pale skin.

What I love most about the Dollish Veil Vita BB Cream is that it feels so smooth. It feels like a very light moisturizer on the skin and does not get oily. It is light, airy and makes me feel like I am not wearing makeup at all. I actually like this more than the Skin 79 BB cream just for that reason, however, the other product does blend into my skin tone better.

Missha M Perfect Cover

Like Skin 79, Missha is a very popular brand. In fact, Missha even has its own online store in the United States, which means you can buy this product directly from the company. It is a bit expensive, around $25 USD, however, you do not have to worry about getting a counterfeit product since the company has a presence in America.

This product has rave reviews and some people think it is even better than the Hot Pink BB Cream. In my opinion, this is a great product, but not as good as some others. However, since you can buy it from the company, it does have an advantage over other BB creams.
