The Destiny Ring
Certain peoples' lives are linked through time and space. And finding a person with your other half-heart is what they call 'destiny'.
for better or for worse...
The best gift I’ve ever received was a gold heart ring from my first love and boyfriend. That was the first jewellery I got and his first jewellery he’d ever given to anyone. So that’s make it special, right? But the ring comes with a story that started with “once upon a time...”
I remember reading a story on our ‘Inspirational Stories’ magazine of our church. This is about a young girl, who believed that God has chosen a man for her, who she believed is her destiny.
After sometime, she gets tired of waiting and asked God to give her a sign. She wrote the signs she wants on a piece of paper and hid it on a book. Years passed and she moved out of the town to pursue her studies on the city and completely forgot about everything. She became busy with school and paper works.
One day, she went back to her town when her car broke down on a deserted road. She panicked and prayed to God for help. Moments later, a car pulled down beside the road. A handsome man offered to help her.
To make the long story short, they fall in love with each other. He gave her a golden bracelet as a gift on their anniversary. She was very happy and full of love. So they got married and have kids.
One day, this woman was arranging her books on a shelf when a piece of paper fell out. She picked it up and read: “My destiny is the first man who will give me a golden bracelet”.
I was a kid way back then when I first read and heard the story. I didn't know about love, pains or even heartbreaks. I just love reading stories with happy endings.
I don’t know why but I got this piece of paper, scribbled something just like the girl on the story about signs, fold it and slipped it on one of my favorite fairy tale book.
I grew up, go to school and completely forgot about the girl and about the story.
And then, I fell in love at first sight with this man. We went out on dates, get to know each other and on our first year, he gave me this gold heart ring. It’s neither an engagement ring nor a wedding ring.
It’s our love ring - a symbol that he really cares and loves me so much. I am too young anyway for wedding bells.
Couple more years later, I also stumbled on the piece of paper hidden on my favourite old fairytale book.
It reads: “The first man who will give me a gold ring is my destiny”. When I told him about that, he said that it was also the first ring he had given anyone. I still can’t believe it he’s the one.
He’s perfect and he’s all I ever wanted. So I guessed that ring is not only marked “special” but it will always belong to the girl who wrote the ‘sign’ on the piece of paper a long time ago.
An innocent girl who never knew what love is but believed that God will find a man who will take care of her when she grew up.
Destiny it is.
