The Top 5 Perfumes I Would Like To Smell On Your Lady

Updated on May 8, 2016

I hate to start out by using an overused cliché but I’m at loss to think of anything else. Folks, it’s “that time of the year again.” Whether it's the Christmas season, Valentine's day or even Mother's Day, normally nice, civil and sane people have turned into a Golems created by the good people of Madison Avenue.

Another sign of the times are the many sad clueless men running the malls looking to buy their women a nice perfume.

This write up was inspired by the third call I received from a buddy, “hey man, XXXXX wants perfume this year, I don’t know @#$# about perfume, any ideas?”

With this in mind, I thought I would jot down my Top 5 favorite perfumes I would like to smell on YOUR lady. These are scents that have either sparked up my male drive or took me to a good place somewhere in the back of mind.

Each scent is based on a woman from my past.

Two of these scents were released in 1998 and 1999. To some people that’s an “old” scent from back in the day.

Let me say this much about older perfumes and the women who wear them. To me a woman who can wear an older perfume is a woman who can buck the current hip thing to create and maintain their own enduring image while while still keeping up with the current trends .

Hypnotic Poison by Dior

5. Hypnotic Poison by Dior-Hypnotic Poison released in 1998 is considered a mature(please do not confuse Mature with old) scent that features:

  • Top Notes- Apricot, Coconut, Plum
  • Middle Notes-Brazilian Rosewood, Caraway, Jasmine, Lilly of The Valley, Rose, Tuberose
  • Base Notes-Almond, Musk, Sandalwood, Vanilla

Hypnotic Poison was first “put on me” quite awhile after her initial release, on a first date, one of many that turned into a long term thing.

It doesn't matter how it ended, I have nothing but fond memories of the good times and surrender brought by this perfume.

Hypnotic Poison describes this perfume to a tee. My “surrender” no doubt was brought on by the musk, sandalwood and vanilla base notes that called me to this woman like a siren calling a sailor to his death upon the rocks.

Poison will make a perfect addition to the collection of a woman who is alluring, sexy…Strike that! This perfume is for a woman that has an alluring, sensual and mature air about her.

Loverdose Red Kiss

4.LoverDose Red Kiss-Released in 2044, Lover Does is one of the top 5 perfumes I would like to smell on your woman as I have on women in my past.

This is a special perfume that reminds of a special someone and the great times we had.

This one wasn't a long term relationship by any means.

I would classify it as a “right on time” situation. By that I mean this was a situation where two people going through changes came together at the right time to help each other out and then moved on when the work was done.

In other words, a no harm no foul situation.

Lover Dose Red Kiss for Women is as playful and sexy as the woman who lives in my memories.

This special combination is compliments of the fresh, citrus opening top notes followed by a clean, chocolate like heart that close with a sensual earth tone.

  • Top Notes: Apple, Bergamot, Black Currant,Sugar
  • Middle Notes: Apricot, Cacao Pod, Hazelnuts, Orange Blossom
  • Base Notes: Amber, Patchouli

This is a fun lover’s fragrance that brings back awesome memories like red platform heels, OPI big Apple Red polish and that playful laugh that kept me coming back for more and at times compels me to make that call in hope of rekindling a short but passionate relationship.

3. J`adore Christian Dior for Women - J'adore is another older scent I really don’t smell on a lot of women these days which is good, I don't really want to walk through the bar, mall or anyone else and have reason to think about her.

The women I do smell it on are generally perky and upbeat (at least when I smell it on them) probably because of the fruity citrus and floral notes in this perfume. Citrus notes tend to help with concentration and mood. J'adore features:

  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Magnolia, Mandarin Orange, Melon, Peach, Pear
  • Middle Notes: Freesia, Jasmine, Lilly of The Valley, Orchid, Plum,Tuberose, Rose,Violet
  • Base Notes: Blackberry, Cedar, Musk, Vanilla

The base notes all but seal the deal. As an FYI vanilla is aphrodisiac.

So much so that I have a friend whose boyfriend isn't the most ready to hit the sack guy, to spark this boy up, she’ll bake up a batch of cookies, cakes or simply simmer real vanilla extract and citrus peels on the stove to spark him up. Nature's Viagra.

The vanilla in her recipe gets him ready to go and I’m sure the scent also puts him back in the day when he had nothing else to worry about other eating, sleeping and drinking when he was living at home.

There you are a free suggestion on getting your dude ready to make love.

Versace Eros For Women

2. Eros Pour Femme Versace for women -Released in 2014, Princess by Vera Wang is the most recent release on my short list. This perfume features:

  • Top Notes: Calabrian Bergamot, Pomegranate, Sicilian Lemon
  • Middle Notes:Jasmine, Jasmine Sambac, Lemon Blossom Peony
  • Base Notes: Ambroxan(Synthetic Ambergris), Musk, Sandalwood, Woody Notes

It’s no surprise this perfume also features citrus floral woody notes. What can I say?

In my humble opinion, this perfume smells a little different on every woman I’ve smelled it on. Body chemistry has a lot to do with how a fragrance smells on a person.

I’ve yet to notice this perfume not smell good on who ever I come across who is wearing it. This is a very popular scent that will morph based on the person who wears it.

Eros will make a great addition to any woman’s fragrance collection. In other words, it will make a great gift for that special woman in your life.

One word of caution, the first time you smell her wearing this, be certain it's in a private non-public spot. Why you ask?

This bottle features an image of Medusa. What happens to men when they look at Medusa, they turn to stone. The same will happen to you or at the very least a certain region of yours may turn to stone.

Nothing wrong with that, after all next to helping us feel good about ourselves, fragrances are about the attraction.

Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel
Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel

1.Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel – Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel was released in 2001. This perfume is marketed towards the younger 20 something crowd but in my humble opinion, this scent works well for an older woman filled with confidence. Coco Mademoiselle is chock full of citrus notes as well as:

· Top Notes-Bergamot, Orange,Grapefruit

· Middle Notes-Jasmine, Litchi, Rose

· Base Notes- Bourbon Vanilla,Indonesian Patchouli, Haitian Vetiver, White Musk

This perfume is number one on my list for a couple of reasons. One, it smells great. Two, I’ll tell you my second reason if you can keep a secret. Don’t tell anyone now..

Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel nearly causes me to lose my mind on the first whiff. The notes in this perfume especially the vanilla and musk combine to make an expensive aphrodisiac in a bottle. In other words, to me this perfume is "Liquid Sex."

I would imagine older women may shy away from a perfume marketed to the younger crowd.

I’m here to say, whether you’re a man or woman, don’t let slick marketing keep you from trying a perfume or cologne that at first glance may seem to be too old or too young for you.

Well, there you have it, the Top 5 perfumes I would like to smell on Your lady. Good luck and happy shopping.
