The Love of Makeup

I will admit I have loved makeup most of my life since early childhood. I am not into caking on so much makeup that your face looks like it has a permanent mask on, but I love using and talking about makeup to help enhance your natural features. So my hopes are that I will be able to add a few of my own suggestions that you may or may not have heard about before; try them and see a difference how a simple task can boost your self-esteem.

Today, the big thing is trying to be as Eco-friendly as possible including using makeup that is not loaded with bad chemicals. It has been a few months now but I have started using Natural Mineral makeup. Yes, it is a little more expensive and it took me sometime to convince myself to try it. I am currently using bare-Minerals and as far as I am concerned they have the best concealer I have ever used! I am not an easy person to sell to, so when I watch the commercials stating how this product does not feel like a powder, blah, blah, blah; I did not believe them. Honestly, this concealer does feel creamy but it is a powder?? It has the best coverage of any concealer I have ever used.

To use bare-Minerals, you put a little into the cap, twirl your brush in it, tap and apply to your face in a circular motion. You are supposed to use all of the products the same way, except I don't. I will put one coat of the foundation on, than put on my concealer by putting some in the cap I am using for my foundation and by using a concealer brush dab it into the concealer and place on my trouble spots. Then I will tap a little more of the foundation into the same cap, twirl my brush into it, tap and do one last sweep across my face. Done!! This makeup last and makes your face feel soft, and look very natural.

I am addicted to my mascara!

One of things I will not do is spend a lot of time putting makeup on.  When I worked an outside job I may have worn a little more makeup then I currently do but what I do wear, I am loyal to.

Like most women, I have searched for years for the perfect mascara.  I have spent $25 for a tube from a mall YEARS ago. I hate mascara that makes you like a raccoon by the end of the day, or mascara that takes a special product to take it off, or mascara that does nothing to enhance your eyes.

Enhancing your eyes does a lot of things, it makes them stand out, it gives you a youthful look but the best thing when your eyes look beautiful, it makes you feel beautiful all over.  Since it came out on the market, my favorite mascara is L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara.  It does everything I like my mascara to do. It lengthens your lashes, it comes off easily and it cost less than $10.00

L’Oreal’s Telescopic Mascara has a thinner brush which I really like because that does not cause your eyelashes to clump together.  I will admit, I love long lashes and have been doing my mascara the same way since I have been wearing makeup.

I always put one coat of mascara on my top lashes, then by using the tip of the mascara brush run it across my bottom lashes and go back and put on another coat on my top lashes.  Most of the time I will put on a third coat of mascara just to make the lashes extra long.  I do not use eyelash curlers or eye shadows; I just wear mascara.  When you are using the tip of the mascara brush across your bottom lashes, if you get a little smudge-just dampen a Q-tip and wipe the smudge.  Also, by running your mascara brush tip across your bottom lashes, if your lashes appear too long, just use the stick part of the Q-tip and go under your bottom lashes to wipe some of the mascara off.

I Love Lips!!

I had an experience one time that absolutely floored me in a well know beauty store at the Mall. I asked the clerk if she could explain to me how to put on lip liner, she turned and said to me, “What? I have never had anyone come in here and ask me that before!” I turned around and left the store and never went back.

I stopped at a drug store, purchased me an inexpensive lip liner pencil, went home and taught myself to put on lip liner. From this whole ordeal, I ended up writing an article for a Goth Magazine called “Sensual Lips”.

So why bother with lip liner anyway? By wearing lip liner, it helps to stop your lipstick from bleeding, it defines your lips and it makes your mouth look very sensual. When I wore lipstick, I had four things I always for in my lip liners: Long wear, smudge proof, softness and a neutral color that would go with most of the lip colors I wore. I use to wear Revlon ColorStay Vixen. The rule of thumb is your lip liner is supposed to be at least 2 shades darker than your lip color. But I do not follow rules; I wore what worked best for me. Since I was mainly very dark shades, the Vixen worked perfect.

Just like I love long eyelashes, I adore full lips. So by using a lip liner you can make your lips appear fuller or if you have full lips and want to thin them you can also do that with a liner. Here is how I taught myself how to use lip liner:

Make sure your lip liner has a good point, but not so sharp that it cuts your lips.  By using your pinky finger as a guide, place it on your chin.  Start on the edge of the middle upper lip and draw an “M” following the natural form of your lip.  See Image –To make your lips fuller #1 Next draw a line on the lower middle bottom edge of your lip. See Image-To make your lips fuller #2.   Then connect the lines, slowly drawing each line to the corners of your mouth.  Remember always follow the natural form of the outer edge of your lips.

To make your fuller lips appear thinner, follow the above directions EXCEPT instead of the line on the outer edge of your lips; you will draw the line right inside the edge.  Please see image-To make fuller lips thinner.

Practice, practice, practice, all it takes is a little soap and water to remove the liner and start again.  You will soon come up with your own unique way of applying lip liner.

Creating Full Lips

Please do not take me wrong..

I am not saying that everyone needs makeup to feel pretty or beautiful or to boost their self-esteem, if makeup is used to help enhance your natural beauty that should be the whole focus.

I was writing something once and added a YouTube video of this young teenager girl explaining basic makeup tips for teenagers that truly impressed me. Makeup is something that can be used to enhance your natural features and your natural beauty. I have seen beautiful goth makeup done where it just looked beyond beautiful, including the black lipstick.

Regardless, of what you are wanting to achieve with your makeup, use your own judgement always but also remember a little can be just as impressive. Thank you for taking the time to read this hub. I do hope you enjoyed it and if you would like, please leave a comment with your thoughts.

I have to have mascara on every day. I use Clinique in black/brown. Sometimes I will put eyeshadow in browns, pinks or peaches. I will sometimes put a lip gloss or lipstick on in pink. I like mostly Clinique or MAC. I do have a few other names too...
