Top 5 Anti Aging Serums

Updated on February 25, 2018

Beauty experts advise jumping on the anti-aging bandwagon in your late 20s or early 30s. The sooner the better, they say. Sadly, that was not something I was concerned with at such an early age. It is always good to be ahead of the game, but if you are like me, you are fighting the signs of aging as they occur. Luckily, for us, the anti aging product segment is growing by leaps and bounds and formulations are being improved upon like never before.

I’m not guaranteeing that any of these top 5 anti-aging serums will dramatically turn back the hands of time, however they can help get rid of those pesky fine lines, minimize the look of enlarged pores and improve uneven skin tone often associated with aging skin. More good news—most of these products are drugstore brands and won’t break the bank.

You'll never look 18 again, but these anti aging serums can turn back the clock a little!

1. Avon ANEW ULTIMATE Age Repair Elixir

Reviews of this anti aging serum are positive (for the most part.) I tried this product for about a month and was pleasantly surprised with the results. My pores have been a problem for a number of years and after two weeks, they were visibly reduced. Now I know these types of products won't permanently shrink pore size, but I have to say they did look less noticeable—which was a huge deal for me! Fine lines around my mouth and eyes were softened. And the dull complexion I had grown accustomed to was brighter and clearer.

The main gripes about this Avon anti aging serum are the bottle and several complaints of allergic dermatitis. With respect to the bottle, you cannot see how much product has been used and cannot remove the top to get the last remaining serum out. I guess that’s something we’ll have to live with unless Avon decides to redesign the bottle. I had no issues with swelling or rashes after using the product for one month. For those with overly sensitive skin, my advice is to try a milder anti aging serum.

Also be aware that a little of this silky serum goes a long way. Use too much of this twice a day anti aging product and the diminutive 1 oz. bottle won’t last very long!

2. StriVectin Overnight Facial Resurfacing Serum

Check out this favorite of Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Minogue. StriVectin Overnight Facial Resurfacing Serum is not your ordinary anti aging serum. This StriVectin product exfoliates your skin while you sleep. In fact, the manufacturer claims it is just like “sleep in a bottle”—so who could possibly resist giving it a try? The stellar review of this serum comes from Cosmopolitan magazine’s website.

The serum was first introduced in the UK and deemed an instant hit. Stores could not keep it on the shelves. It is now available in the states through retailers (brick and mortar and online sources) that carry the StriVectin line of products.

Apply the magic, leave-on treatment under your moisturizer at bedtime and wake up to a more youthful looking you! The plant-based exfoliants are gentle and non-drying to the skin, but tough enough to remove the top layer of dead skin cells that are the root of many skin problems. You probably won’t look 20 again, but your dull complexion, dry patches, fine lines and uneven skin tone will be replaced with smoother, radiant skin. Sounds like this one is definitely worth a go!

3. Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum

I have used Olay products off and on for years. For the most part, I have been very pleased and especially like the price point of their Daily Regenerating Serum. Although the Regenerist line is the company’s premium line, compared to department store brands, these are a steal!

First of all, I like the way this lightweight serum feels when applied. It is ultra smooth and provides a flawless finish if you wish to follow with a foundation. I personally don’t like to clog my pores with a foundation, so I just apply a light dusting of translucent finishing powder and a little eye makeup and blush and I’m out the door!

I wasn’t totally blown away with the fine line reduction as with the Avon product, but I noticed a significant difference in the overall appearance of my skin. Uneven areas and splotchiness disappeared and I did not have the “shine factor” that I would normally experience after a couple of hours.

4. Boots No. 7 Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum

I’m so glad the Boots skincare line made its way across the pond. I have been using their pore refiner for a number of years and just love it. Added to my list of favorites: Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum.

This anti-ager is specially formulated to fight and lessen the look of fine lines and wrinkles and actually lives up to the hype! When you apply the satiny serum, you will immediately notice a difference in your skin texture.

The British Journal of Dermatology published the results of a 12-month clinical study in which participants actually witnessed an improvement in facial wrinkles (I looked up the study. It legitimate and was published in the August 2009 edition of the journal.) I have not been using Protect and Perfect for a full year like the study group, but I can definitely see positive results. I use it twice a day along with my usual day and nighttime moisturizers.

5. Genie Instant Line Smoother

Not willing to pay the price for cosmetic surgery to look younger? Then try this little face-lift in a bottle to smooth out wrinkles and firm up your face and neck! I have yet to personally try this anti aging serum, but know someone who has and wanted to share her experience with you.

This is not technically a serum designed for long-term anti aging results. Genie Instant Line Smoother is a quick fix that fills in lines and wrinkles. She said it also reduces under eye bags and puffiness while firming the face and neck area. This smoothing serum is perfect for an evening out, but don’t expect an all day “lift”.

It’s hypoallergenic, so allergic reactions should not be an issue. My friend says you can combine Genie Instant Line Smoother with your usual foundation or wear it over your makeup and it is light enough go it alone for an au naturale look.

Vespawoolf, there are so many anti-aging products on the market, it is difficult to wade through them all to find the right one. Hopefully my research and reviews helped narrow the search a bit! :)

Glad you enjoyed this Hub and thank you for the additional tips re Avon products. They've sure come a long way since my mother sold them in the 70s. Their anti-aging products get consistently high reviews.
