Top 5 Must-Haves for the Fall Season

Updated on December 11, 2014

It is that time of the year again! Fall is here and it is time to pack up the summer wardrobe and pull out your fall line up. As the leaves change colors, so does our wardrobe. Fall is the season when a woman can still show off those amazing outfits without covering it all up with a big heavy coat. This year, there are definitely a few items that have made a serious comeback and are a must have for the fall. There is no need to go out and buy a completely new wardrobe, if you are a woman like me who likes to mix and match the old with the new. This little secret helps to keep your wardrobe looking fresh all year round!

#1 Oversized Sweater Cardigans

Still want to show off that sexy outfit while staying warm, an oversized sweater cardigan will do the trick every time! Most oversized sweater cardigans still allow for a woman to still have a peak-a-boo of her cute outfit underneath. Also, this season there is plenty of mixing of patterns and colors, so if you want to stand out from the crowd this is the way to go. If you are a fashionista like me, then you will shake up this look to take it to the next level by adding some fun accessories. Consider adding a statement piece like a long necklace to make this look pop. We already see the A-list celebrities from Taylor Swift, to Jennifer Lopez, to Beyonce wearing this chic look. Check out shopdailychic.com for a cute Aztec print oversized sweater cardigan for $48.

#2 Oversized Scarves

A totally chic look that totally hit the runway this sseason is the oversized scarf. Woman are replacing a necklace with an oversized scarf, which is totally needed as the temperature cools down. The bigger the scarf the better, so go big or get out of this trends way! Everyone from Barneys, to Nordstrom, to Macy’s, to Target is carrying a wide variety of oversized scarves with different patterns and colors. A great way to wear this look is to make sure your outfit is very structured and put together as you throw your oversized scarf around your neck. Also, top it off with a pulled back ponytail and some sexy Jackie O sunglasses. This style is so hot that men are joining the oversized scarf bandwagon and rocking this look as well!

How to Achieve the Distressed Jean Look!

#3 Distressed Jeans

Yes, ladies this style jean is here to stay, at least through the fall season! This is perfect for any woman who does not want to buy a new pair of jeans. These days, jeans can cost a pretty penny, instead you can head into your closet and pull out those jeans from last season. Also, if you want to take the distressed look to the next level you can definitely do it yourself with a pair of scissors and sandpaper. Easy how to steps can be found at Wikihow. What I love about a distressed jean is you can wear it for just about any occasion. Even with a little chill in the air you can add a pair of stockings or tights underneath to add a little extra layer and flare.

I’ve worn a pair of distressed jean to the mall with my girlfriends and to date night with my guy. It is all about the shoes and the accessories that helps a woman take it to the next level. Check out a smoking hot lot look on Pinterest where a true glam girl added a gold blazer and a nude pump with a pair of distressed jeans!

#4 Over-the-Knee Boots

Throw your flip-flops and espadrilles in the back of the closet, because boot season is back and there is only one-way to wear it this fall season. Whether you have on flat boots or boots with a heel, a pair of over-the-knee boots is definitely an added statement piece to an outfit. Just imagine walking down the street in a cute pair of leggings and an oversized sweater with some sexy over-the-knee boots. Or if you are on your way to work with a pencil skirt, blouse, blazer, and trapeze handbag with a pair of over-the-knee boots. And don’t forget a night out with the girls or your guy pulling up to a nightclub or romantic restaurant in a pair of over-the-knee boots and a smoking hot outfit!

Don’t want to break the bank while trying to find the perfect pair of boots, then I would suggest going to stores such as DSW, Macy’s, or Nordstrom. And if all else fails in finding the perfect pair of boots within your budget wait until a sale!

#5 Floppy Hats

Before you break out the big hat with the ball on the top you can spice up your fall outfit with a floppy hat. This accessory definitely started making a slow comeback last season, but no matter where you turn this fall there are floppy hats every wear. This style is no longer for a woman of a certain age, any woman of any age can wear this style. Walking into H&M I noticed there were floppy hats all over the store. Looking for a more high-end hat then I would suggest checking out Nordstrom. However, if you are a woman like me and want a steal, then shop at your local consignment or vintage store. Usually, there are great finds with a reasonable price tag in these types of stores.

If you want to ease into the style until you feel 100% comfortable with wearing a floppy hat start off with a small brim classic black floppy hat, this type of hat can go with any outfit for multiple occasions! Don’t be afraid to play around with the brim of the hat and positioning it on your head until it fits your look!

I have to admit that this is all Greek to me, Charmain. My "must have" for fall is the same pair of jeans I had last year. But anyway, welcome to HubPages.

I'm not a big fan of Fall just because I don't like the cold but I like the over-knee boots in your list and yes, the brown bag in the first picture. :)

      Welcome to HP!

P.S. Wait, did mdscoggins just said the same thing? Lol! No one likes the cold, eh?

Hi Charmain - great list. I do not like the cold weather but surely love winter clothes. My favorite is above the knee boots and jeans. Don't forget the go to sweatshirt.
