What is a Tribal Tattoo?
Tribal Tattoos are derived from an art form first seen in ancient cave drawings. Tribal Tattoos typically consist of basic solid shapes containing few to many straight lines and curves. Tribal tattoos can either be outlined, fully filled, or partially both.
As Tribal art becomes more and more popular you we see more variations of these types of tattoos as each artist can add his or her own design or spin on the tribal tattoo in order to make each tattoo unique and custom. Some tribal tattoos are still derived from a cookie cutter style and in most cases people get a tattoo to either look cool, have meaning, or to help define ones own individuality. In this case I recommend finding a tribal tattoo design that appeals to you either by sight, feeling, or a meaning that it inspires when you view it. Once you have picked out this design find a "good" tattoo artist, one known for doing custom tribal tattoos if possible, and ask them to sketch a variation or two of your design. This will allow you to have a customized tribal tattoo that is unique and has more meaning to you.
Personally I use Chopper Tattoo's Tattoo gallery in order to find ideas for all types of tattoos, whether for myself, or for a friend.
