Updated on September 12, 2012

Janine is a published author in Only Trollops Shave Above the Knees, appears on The Huffington Post and at Confessions of A Mommyaholic.

Recently, I reviewed the Fall Trollbeads Glass collection and promised the reader a look at the Silver and Gemstone collections too. Today is Labor Day, so it is the unofficial end to summer and beginning of Fall here in the United States, so I felt it only fitting to publish this article now.

There are twelve Chinese Zodiac Beads, one playing card bead and three Family beads too. So in this article, I will indeed do just that and review these beads. So sit back and enjoy the eye candy here now!!

The Gemstones:

Faceted Zebra Jasper

A gemstone in an earthly pattern. Over thousands of years spent silently witnessing the evolution of the earth’s crust, each bead has slowly developed its own unique patterns.

A beautiful earthy bead is what this one has been tagged as. The earth is truly all around us and during the season of autumn, we are reminded how things are indeed changing. The bright greens that were focal for spring and summer are now changing colors. One such color is brown that will be seen during the fall and this bead truly fits in so nicely for this time of year for that reason and is a great addition to this collection. This is a patterned bead, so one would want to try to pick this bead out by hand, because there will most likely be a bit of variation here as well.

Source

Faceted Green Jasper

A gemstone that embodies both light and dark green. Over thousands of years spent silently witnessing the evolution of the earth’s crust, each bead has slowly developed its own unique patterns.

Before the leaves do turn colors and end up being mostly brown, they will start to deepen to a mossy green color and that is the color you will see on the bead. See yet again this one is right at home in this collection and more variation will be had, therefore another one you will want to choose by hand.

Source

Facected Chalcedony

This pale blue stone promotes calm and peace and stimulates creativity. Here the faceted surface reflects the light beautifully

This one is a pale blue and works nicely yet again in this collection, because if one can recall the glass beads in this very collection, we saw lots of blue tones invoked there and this bead would compliment those glass beads ever so nicely. The is the last of the gemstones and if you have designs on this one I would suggest hand picking one out for the variation issue here yet again.

The Chinese Zodiac Beads

Dog

Are you: – Loyal, honest and very reliable – Generous and unselfish – Calm – Very helpful like the Chinese Zodiac Dog?

Dogs are known as man's best friend and when seeing this charm I reminded of a big, yet lovable golden retriever. My husband actually grew up with a dog just like this and swears that this type of dog is truly the best for being around children from his memories of his beloved, PJ. Therefore it would make sense that Trollbeads has designed this one for those who are loyal, honest and reliable like that of a the loyal dog.

Source

Dragon

Are you: – Colourful and imaginative – Effective, accountable and honest – Feisty and temperamental – Energetic and brave like the Chinese Zodiac Dragon?

Growing up I read many a fairy tale with usually a dragon that graced the pages of the story. I recall these dragons being a bit spunky, but oh so very brave. Usually the dragon came off as scary, but in the end would save the day. So Trollbeads description of this charm again makes sense.

Source

Goat

Are you: – Gentle and sensitive – Artistic and flexible – Friendly and diplomatic – Heart of gold like the Chinese Zodiac Goat?

A few years back, my husband, his family and myself (before we had our own kids) went to the Bronx Zoo to see the Christmas lights show they had for the season. There was this goat there that was so friendly and yet so gentle. When I saw this charm it honestly make me think of that and made so much sense how the goat silver charm was described by the Trollbeads company.

Source

Horse

Are you: – Energetic, ambitious and wise – Friendly and humorous – Cheerful – Love to meet new people like the Chinese Zodiac Horse?

As a kid, I watched a lot of sitcom TV that was in reruns already. One such show, was the famous "Mr. Ed". I swear I saw this charm and thought about the talking Mr. Ed, who was friendly and so very humorous. Yet again, Trollbeads is very much right on with their description of the horse silver charm, because even though it was just TV, Mr. Ed was truly a great representation when thinking of a horse in this case.

Source

Monkey

Are you: – Quick-thinking and original – Intelligent and eager to learn – Good common sense – Helpful and very energetic like the Chinese Zodiac Monkey?

Here I am thinking so much about TV with the silver zodiac charms that this one had me thinking of one of my favorites and the show, Friends. If you are a fan of the show like I am, then you know where I am going with this one. I am of course referring to Marcel, Ross's pet monkey capuchin. Not only was this little monkey eager to learn, he was a great friend to the character at a time in the character's life when needed most.

Source

Ox

Are you: – Gentle, patient and calm – Hardworking and conscientious – Honest and loyal – Extremely perservering like the Chinese Zodiac Ox?

Early on, I was taught to be a hard worker and if did something to give it my all. I never thought of an ox quite this way, but when I saw the description of this charm that was what I began to think and how I was told my parents that whatever I attempted be it school work or working (employment) that I should be dedicated and give only my best. So when I was in school and even when I was employed as I got older, I always put my best foot forward and never gave any less than 100% of myself. So I guess from Trollbeads description, I have a little bit of 'ox' in me, who knew!!

Source

Pig

Are you: – Polite and generous – Tolerant and humorous – Temperamental and impulsive – Very strong willed like the Chinese Zodiac Pig?

Now here I am reading the description of this silver charm and I again a big reader from as far back as when I was a small child. I remember reading the book, "Charlotte's Web," by E.B. White. I am so reminded here of the spider named Charlotte helping the poor defenseless pig named Wilbur when the owner of the farm wanted to kill Wilbur. Ever the charming tale and a classic for children worldwide, this book has been read been millions of kids over the years including myself. Anyway, I read the caption from Trollbeads and indeed could not help, but be reminded of this cherished children's book.

Source

Rabbit

Are you: – Talented and intelligent – Cultured, positive and peaceful – Careful and romantic – Exquisite and tasteful like the Chinese Zodiac Rabbit?

I was 14 years old, when we moved to Long Island (the suburbs) from Queens (the big city). I had never actually seen a live bunny rabbit before. But the first summer we lived here, we were in our new backyard and as right as rain there was this tiny brown rabbit just sitting in the grass not moving a muscle. I learned pretty quickly that this was the norm for our new place of residence. I also found out that that little rabbit was so still, because he believed that if he didn't move, he would be camouflaged so that he would not be seen or harmed by anyone or anything. Years have gone by since that first encounter and this past summer my kids have come into contact in this very same neighborhood more rabbits than I could count (yes thus the saying breed like rabbits!). To see the excitement on their faces for the first time, I feel like I have totally come full circle. In any event, this charm truly brought back memories from that first summer of living in our new home as a teenager.

Source

Rat

Are you: – Resourceful and flexible – Intelligent and imaginative – Charming and with a winning character – Highly intuitive like the Chinese Zodiac Rat?

Ok so I have to admit I am not sure if I can completely get the appeal of a charm that looks like a rat, but I guess a cute, friendly little mouse might be more my speed. So when I heard if this charm I had my reservations, but seeing it up close and personal, it is nicely detailed and has its own charm so to speak. And for all the rat stands for in the Chinese culture, I can now see the appeal on both levels.

Source

Rooster

Are you: – Enthusiastic and brave – Ambitious and accurate – Confident and reliable – Love to party like the Chinese Zodiac Rooster?

Ok, so by now the reader knows from the monkey that I am a fan of the show Friends. So yes, I saw a rooster and immediately thought of Chandler and Joey on friends having a pet duck and rooster in one of the seasons of this very popular show. Yes I do have a life outside of TV, believe me, but just couldn't help it when I saw this charm to have my first thoughts be of that show and of course of these two goofy guys raising a "chick and a duck" as they so eloquently put it on more than one occasion! Once I got past my initial thought of that, then I was left thinking about the 'accurate' statement by Trollbeads and realized what a clever little animal a rooster really is by how they do crow when the sun comes up in the morning letting the world know it is indeed time to wake up. That said another classic charm from Trollbeads!

Source

Snake

Are you: – Quick and intuitive thinker – Thoughtful, wise and detailed – Patient and trustworthy – Attractive like the Chinese Zodiac Snake?

As a teenager a friend of mine had a snake as a pet. I was truly turned off by this, but he was very much fascinated by his pet and especially the snake's meal time. See the snake was fed live mice. Yes, a very true story. My friend would buy a live mouse from the pet store and proceed to put the mouse in the cage with the snake. The snake would in turn wrap himself around the mouse suffocating it to death and then would devour it whole. You could actually see the mouse as it was being digested through the snake's skin. It was truly a gross experience to say the least, but my friend was captivated. As unattractive as a tale an be, I still remember this experience years later, but it does prove Trollbeads' description to be on the mark about a snake being a quick thinker.

Source

Tiger

Are you: – Adventurous – Strong, brave and honest – Imaginative and ambitious – Always in a very good mood like the Chinese Zodiac Tiger?

The tiger is truly the king of the jungle (the largest in the cat species) and as much as this animal would probably scare the daylights out of me if I just so happened to see one in front of me in my daily life. I must say that whenever I have gone to the zoo in the past, I have always been a bit fascinated by seeing one as long as it is safe behind bars and not able to harm anyone. That said this charm is just as grand as the tiger and totally does this larger than life animal justice.

Playing Cards

Bridge, Solitaire, Rummy. A card game is always a cozy way to spend time together.

When I first saw this silver bead, I was transported back to 1990. My parents were on vacation in Hawaii and my grandparents were watching my brother and I for the week. Well, my grandmother ended up coming down with the flu and it was left to my grandfather to watch us kids. I was 12 years old and my brother was 6 years old (there is a 6 year age difference between us).

What did my grandfather do with us to pass the time? He taught us how to play "poker"! Back when my grandfather served in the army during WWII, he learned how to play a mean hand of poker. So he decided to pass on this tradition to his young grandchildren. He even taught us how to put on our best "poker faces" when bluffing.

I know it was anything, but a traditional way to spend time with us, but I swear to this day when I think of playing cards and/or poker, I immediately think of my grandfather and that week we spent together. So of course when I first saw this bead, I thought instantly about my grandfather and the poker game we played that whole week. Whatever you think of when seeing this bead, it is truly an amazing bead and so very detailed.

Marry Me

Will you marry me?

I was instantly transported back to April 2003. It was Palm Sunday weekend and my, then boyfriend took me to our local park for a walk. We stopped at the gazebo in the park, where we sat down and continued to talk about the past, present and then he shifted the conversation over to the future, where he told me how he wanted me in his life now and everyday in his future. He then got down on one bended knee and asked me to "Marry him!" I of course said yes and that was almost 10 years ago and we have been married for 6 wonderful years now with two beautiful children too!! So I saw the "Marry Me" silver charm and indeed remembered my husband's own proposal of marriage to me back on that very special day.

Dancing

Two people dancing closely and happily together through life.

July 8, 2006, we danced our first dance as husband and wife. The song playing was Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love" and I remember feeling like I was floating on air during that dance and even that whole day. It was truly one of the best days of my life and even now I love looking at the pictures, because I am reminded of what a wonderful day it was and how we began the rest of our lives together as husband and wife.

I saw this silver charm and that was exactly the memory that was brought back to me and I realized I had a huge grin plastered on my face. I do love when a silver charm has that effect on me and this one totally did!

Source

Family

Mother and father walking with their newborn in the baby stroller – proud and filled with love.

July 17, 2009, it was 10:31 pm on a Friday night and I laid eyes on her for the very first time. She was so very tiny and looked like a tiny baby doll. Even though I was 39 weeks pregnant and term, my Emma Grace was only 5 lbs. 15 ozs. at birth (not even 6 lbs!). But let me tell you, I waited nine long months for that moment and she definitely didn't disappoint, because again it was one of the best moments in my life. I held her for what seemed like an eternity and then of course they took her to be checked out at the nursery. When they finally brought her back to me, it was a little after 1 am in the morning and was asked if I wanted to sleep or spend time with my new bundle of joy. I immediately told them no way were they taking her back to the nursery. She stayed with me in the room for hours and slept in my arms while I just watched her. I told her over and over how much I already loved her and wanted her so much.

That was over 3 years ago and my baby starts pre-school in a few short days, but I saw this silver charm and was transported back to her birth. Again, I love how these specific beads brought back some of the best memories I have had in my lifetime and this one was no exception.

Summing It Up...

Well I hope you have enjoyed reviewing these beads with me and know it has been my absolute pleasure to introduce the Trollbeads Fall Silver and Jewel Collection 2012 here today. This truly has been such an exciting collection to discuss for me and please stay tuned for the next article that I will be writing about more Trollbeads and Pandora Jewelry. Until then, Happy Trolling!!!

I have always wanted to try, but don't think I could do it (at this point just too much work with my kids). I honestly treid to just write as to what each reminded me of and glad I am not alone in my love for Friends. Janine,

What a truly wonderful hub! Honestly, more than the Troll beads collection (wonderful collection of course, no denying that), I loved the way you described each relating a few of them to your own beautiful experiences especially Kevin's proposal and Emma's arrival :) So beautifully presented Janine! Voted for "Marry me" :) though I wanted to vote for family too. Am sharing it, tweeting it and pinning it too. Will try to put it up on Redgage too. Cheers, Rema.
