Turmeric Skin Care

Discover the benefits of Turmeric for skin care without the mess of Turmeric powder by using Passport to Organics Clear Face products!

Did you know that Turmeric has amazing benefits for skin as well as being a delicious ingredient you probably have in your kitchen store cupboard right now?

Turmeric has been used for centuries in natural skincare preparations and because of its properties to soothe and heal, it is particularly beneficial for blemishes and for those suffering from acne, eczema and for those with skin scarring.

If this natural herb is such a wonderful thing to use, why don’t more people associate Turmeric and skin care?

The answer could be that it is a bit messy to use and can stain skin, clothing and anything else it comes into contact with.

So, in this article, we are looking at the skin care benefits of this spice with a 21st century twist and reviewing a range of commercially available products that will provide your face with the healing, soothing, complexion-boosting benefits without any of the mess and bother of concocting your own, home-made recipes using Turmeric powder.

What is Turmeric?

Before I introduce you to the range of products I want to talk about, let me first tell you a little bit about this spice.

What we know as Turmeric Powder, the ingredient that is added to many spicy recipes, actually comes from the tuberous roots of a plant called Curcuma Longa. The ingredient that gives the distinctive yellow-orange color is called Curcumin and this ingredient is also available for many medicinal purposes today. Traditionally, it is used for digestive and liver problems and to purify the blood and has been in use since 600BC. Externally, it has also been used for its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties to heal wounds and to treat skin diseases.

Turmeric has been incorporated into modern medicines and topical treatments because it is a potent and effective ingredient with powerful antioxidant properties which make it wonderful for use in skin care products. As mentioned before, Curcumin has a bright orange color and stains like Lily pollen! So for those of us who want to enjoy the benefits of this miraculous herb for our skin, it is great that manufacturers are now making commercially available, non-staining products that are easy and convenient to use but which are effective on all the skin problems traditionally treated with skin preparations containing Turmeric powder.

In skin care, apart from its healing properties, it has a lightening and brightening effect on the skin, leaving the complexion soft, smooth and glowing.

My Favorite Skin Care Products Containing Turmeric

I love three products from Passport To Organics in their Clear Face range, a cleanser, moisturizer and a serum. In addition, I love the weekly treat of the Juara Turmeric Mask from Juara Skincare. Both companies have a wonderful philosophy of using natural ingredients in their skin care products and leaving out the ‘nasties’

Passport to Organics states that their products are:

“Paraben free, GMO free , No synthetic or harmful ingredients , No animal testing”

In addition, all their products are 70%-100% organic

Juara states:

“no animal testing, paraben-free, contains no artificial colorants, sulphates or phthalates”

In addition all their products are 100% vegetarian.

Clear Face Turmeric Cream Cleanser

This light and gentle cleanser can be used by all skin types even those with sensitive or acne blemish and breakout-prone complexions. It leaves the face feeling lovely – soft and soothed. It contains a blend of organic Turmeric extract with other organic ingredients including aloe vera, green , white and Rooibos teas plus jojoba oil, black willow bark and Vitamin C Ester (the correct form of the Vitamin for use in skin care products).

If you have blemishes, the Turmeric extract with its anti bacterial effect, soothes and heals acne, eczema and psoriasis, will take the redness out of skin rashes and smooths and hydrates dry skin, restoring your clear complexion in a natural, gentle way. The cleanser also helps those of us with more mature complexion as it helps reduce the formation and appearance of lines and wrinkles. If you have uneven skin tone or discoloration from scarring, it also helps to balance and lighten the complexion.

Clear Face Turmeric Serum

This serum is a product my daughter uses as it is a real help to prevent and deal with blemishes. Its formulation includes the Turmeric extract plus black willowbark, antiseptic tea trea oil, neem oil and soothing witch hazel. The formulation is non-greasy so you can either use it on individual blemishes or over your whole face as a preventative treatment. You should apply the serum after cleansing and before the face cream.

I don’t use this product on a daily basis because my complexion is more mature and not prone to acne blemishes. However, it is lovely to use as a weekly treat which I apply after the Juara Turmeric Face Mask (described below) and before applying the Clear Face Cream. It is suitable for all skin types and has a lovely, light, “citrusy” smell.

Clear Face Turmeric Cream Set

All three of the above mentioned products are available individually at great prices from Amazon but, as a real treat or as a lovely gift idea, you could save money on the individual prices by buying the set (pictured right).

JUARA Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Mask

This is a real treat for your complexion, whatever your age or skin type. If your skin is looking tired or stressed it is a great way to get it looking party-perfect in no time! It evens out skin tone and really does seem to brighten the complexion if you use it regularly. It also provides powerful antioxidant protection. If you have an oily complexion, you could use it twice a week, I only use it once.

It is so easy to use, but make sure you can be undisturbed for around twenty minutes before you decide to use it. Just spread it generously on your whole face, making sure you keep it away from your mouth area and only use it outside the periorbital area (don’t use it near your eyes, inside your brow bone or in the under-eye area above your cheek bones).

I hope that my hub has shown you that you can enjoy the benefits of using Turmeric in your skin care regime without the fuss, bother and mess of using the powdered root. These products are all great value and effective. The Clear Face range pump dispensers ensure hygiene is maintained so there are no worries about the product becoming contaminated with bacteria.

You will not have to worry about the possibility of the Curcumin dyeing your skin either! You can look forward to brighter, clearer skin, protected from environmental stressors and, for the older ladies amongst us, enjoy the anti aging benefits of using Turmeric as well!

Very informative. I heard it was good to add to food, so I put the powder in a shaker bottle, same as salt and pepper, use it regularly.
