When searching through magazines for wedding dress styles, do you drool over the latest trends? Do you compare yourself to the models in the bridal magazines? If your answer is yes, then you can find the right wedding dress for your your body type.
Finding the perfect wedding dress can be a daunting experience. You may feel pressured to follow the latest trends or choose the latest designers. If you are not careful, you could end up choosing a dress that is not a good match for your body type. To find wedding fashion ideas, many brides turn to bridal magazines. Majority of the models are super slim, and will probably look good in anything. Most American brides; however, are of the average dress size 16W. This means that the average American woman is curvier than what is presented in magazines. Some of the curves are in less desirable places. Nonetheless, there is a way to cover up those less desirable areas, accentuate assets, while looking beautiful.
Choosing the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Shape
There are three basic body types for women: pear, apple, and boyish. There are some variations that fit in between these categories such as: hourglass, triangle, and top heavy. Once you determine your body shape you can choose the perfect gown.
If you are pear shaped then you have a smaller upper body, small waistline, and fuller hips and thighs. Pear shaped brides to be should choose a wedding dress that will minimize your fuller-hips, yet accentuate your small waistline. A-line dresses look the best at hiding the larger bottom areas. You can easily choose embellishments on the top without looking large and bulky.
You can also choose empire cut bridal gowns with a fitted waist. This gown will hide the fullness of your hips while flattering the waist line. It brings the eye upward to concentrate on your bust line. Beautiful neck lines such as halters, v-necks, or sweethearts accentuate your bust line without revealing too much.
I happen to be pear shaped. While searching for a wedding dress I tried on a princess dress and mermaid halter dress. While the mermaid halter dress looked beautiful on me, I found this particular style too sexy for my wedding day. I went with an a-line dress that was fuller at the bottom, with a fitted waist. I added a petticoat slip to add fullness.
The best dresses for apple shaped women are those that hide the midsection. Since most of the weight is carried in the midsection, apple shaped women should avoid wearing fitted waist dresses. Also avoid wearing A-line dresses as they will make you look too boxy. Instead, wear a lose fitting empire waist wedding dress. It will hide your problem areas while giving the illusion of a proportionate shape.
Variations on this body type is the triangle shape; really small busts with a larger torso and hips. Empire waist dresses work well with this body shape.
For the boyish body type that is a little smaller or with equal bust, waist, and hip measurements, you will want to wear a dress that gives you a waist line and hips. Princess dresses look the best on this body type. Particularly, a princess wedding gown with a sweetheart neckline and corset will give all around fuller measurements.
A variation on this body type is the top-heavy shape. If you are top-heavy choose a straight neckline to minimize the top, fitted waist, and princess bottom.
