What Sent Me to Younique and the World of Online Marketing
Rolling my Eyes
Why am I rolling my eyes, you ask? Well it's sales, and who makes money in sales anyway? So yes, when I first heard about Younique I rolled my eyes. I was curious, but still not interested as I've seen many makeup sales jobs throughout the years, and I don't wear much makeup. See, here's a little secret of mine...I have worn the same 5 items for the last 15 years, and it's worked quite well for me. It's not that I don't like playing with makeup, but it always seemed more of a hassle to spend hours on my makeup each day, at least more hassle then I was willing to spend. You could say I've perfected the 10-minute out-the-door routine. I tell you what though, with 3 kids, you learn to adapt, and move quickly!
Anyway, I was raising my 2 girls on my own and still going through divorce and was working 3 different jobs and was extremely tired, I mean extremely tired ALL THE TIME! I was tired of having so many appointments to go to and tired of having to find childcare all the time, and sick of not having the flexibility I needed at this point in my life. I won't lie either, the start-up fee was also a deterrent for me too, $99 on makeup didn't seem like a priority for me.
So I rolled my eyes for a while about this company, and I can tell you I am still rolling my eyes about this company, but you know what, if this company can provide what I need and I just have to give it a try, learn, listen and use my existing web design and marketing knowledge to create not just a living, but a life for my family, then it's worth a shot.
I've never done online selling before, and generally stuck to building websites and doing behind the scenes work because making connections isn't exactly my thing, ya know? I love being an introvert, not that I can't extrovert the hell out of myself but I am most comfortable being quiet and keeping to myself. But you know what helped me get over this hurdle. A ton of this is online and/or talking with people one on one. I know I'm going to have to work on this, but I thought it couldn't hurt to grow a little throughout this process.

Did I Mention Price Above?
So, you caught that huh? I'm not trying to hide it. It costs a one-time fee of $99 to become a Presenter with Younique. But with that $99 you get a shit ton of makeup, and the retail value of the kit alone is $250! I got enough to last me the entire year, seriously, I don't wear much makeup and now I have makeup for all kinds of occasions. Honestly, it's kind of fun to play with it and I did do my daughters makeup and she had a blast. I would never spend $99 on makeup, but again, with the kit comes the opportunity to make a decent living, so I suppose i am saying it's worth the price, at least to me it is. Below is what comes in the kit, and by looking at it, it definitely seems like way more than $99 worth of products! I have starred the items that I am actually pretty happy about receiving!

Bringing Social Back...
The next thing I did was get back on social media. I had primarily stopped using Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook. I did have an active and popular Instagram account, but I haven't utilized that yet. Since these sites were pretty much dead when I started, my primary goal was building them back up and re-establishing relationships. This isn't my strong suit, but I do know how to do it and how to do it well. It does take a bit of time though, but I managed to grow my twitter following by 200 people in the first 3 days of signing up for Younique. It didn't yield me a sale in those first 3 days. but the targeted following is providing a bit of buzz around my posts, which will definitely help me in the long term.
How Am I Building My Business...
Since I have a background in web design the first thing I did was create a landing page for the mascara. I wanted to make sure the people I was selling to had all the information they need on one clear and concise page. You can view the page here --> 3D Mascara Review <--
I felt this was important because I wasn't feeling their website at all. It doesn't seem user-friendly and all the important information seems scattered and hard to find. Even the check-out pages are pretty primitive. No worries though, by building my own page I was able to thwart potential mascara customers negative reactions to the website with one pretty page.
Where that Leaves Me
I realize I have a lot to work out, and that I am still learning this whole makeup thing, but so far I have a decently positive outlook on the program. I have started to talk to people in my group and I will say, having some friends with common interests in kind of nice. Being a single mommy it is hard to find good woman to talk to. It is so rare you get to go out and actually not feel guilty about it.
So I suppose I will update you guys again as my journey continues. If you want more information, visit me at http://bit.ly/RGContact
Where this Leaves You?
So what did you learn about this entire post? I'm not really sure, everyone takes something slightly different and turns it into something different. If you are on the fence about Younique and researching them, I'd say $99 is much less than the 5 hours of research you put into this company, and the worst thing that can happen is you now have an arsenal of makeup which is fun in and of itself.
If you want to get started today you can join through this link, and please contact me for more information so that I can help you and we can learn and grow together. This company is about more than just building a career, it's about building relationships that suit your life!
