What to Wear for Rush

Updated on May 6, 2014

I remember when I was planning for rush, I had no clue what to expect! You get a list of what to wear, but there's so much pressure to have the perfect outfit. With summer coming up, I know a lot of girls are trying to get their stuff in order to go through rush, so this is just some examples of what I would've worn if I was going through in the fall!

Depending on how many sororities are at your university, ice water round could be one or two days. At my school, it was two days, which means I had to get two outfits! During ice water, they tell you to wear a sundress and sandals. Now I go to school in the South, so it's 100+ degrees outside when we have rush, so make sure it's a dress that won't show sweat stains!

These dresses are both perfect because they're light and won't show sweat! They're also the perfect balance of casual and cute.

Ice water is also one of my favorite rounds because you get to wear sandals. At my school, a lot of the girls wore the Tory Burch sandals, but that's not a requirement. I just wore some cute sandals that I had in my closet already.

Since ice water is so casual, you don't need to wear any flashy jewelry. I picked out these Kendra Scott earrings because they are bold enough to make a statement, but they are casual as well. They would also be a great conversation topic during recruitment!

For philanthropy, they gave us a shirt that we had to wear, and then we wore J Crew shorts with it and some sandals. This is by far the easiest round to plan for!

Skit round is a little bit nicer than ice water. You can wear a pretty casual dress, just this time you have to wear some wedges! A tip they told us was to carry around sandals in the bag that you bring with you so when you're walking between houses you don't have to wear your wedges. Trust me, the parties are longer this time and standing in wedges can be painful, especially if you're nervous! Again, I rushed when it was extremely hot outside, but they gave us some tissue to wipe off our feet with so they weren't sweaty when you walked in your wedges. You don't want to be sliding around in them!

This round is a little on the casual side, but if you want to wear some light jewelry, these necklaces are really cute, and you can layer them!

This was by far my favorite round! You get to hear the girls' stories on why their sorority means so much to them. It really made me extremely happy I went through rush. This round is formal, so I chose a simple black dress to wear. And unfortunately during this round, you have to wear heels again! This round you have less houses to go to though, so you won't be in them for as long. Again, I recommend that you bring sandals in your bag to change into for when you're walking between parties!

These necklaces would go great with this dress. They're unique, and give you a pop of color. They'd also be a great conversation starter!

Rush can be an extremely stressful experience, but in my opinion it's all worth it in the end! Don't be concerned with going where all of your friends go, do what you feel is best for you. This is just a guideline to help make your rush experience a little bit easier. Make sure you be yourself and don't forget to have fun during recruitment!
