Winter Dress Styles which Flatter Shortwaisted Women

Updated on January 8, 2017

It is almost as important to know what not to wear as it is to know what to wear when looking at styles for the shortwaisted person. We come in all shapes and sizes and even though you may be attracted to all the hot new fashions around, it is helpful to know what your body type is and how to best emphasize your best features. There is nothing wrong with being short waisted or long waisted, tall, thin, round or square. All you need to be concerned with is choosing styles, and adjusting others, to make you feel and look your very best.

Winter fashions for all body types

Winter fashions out this year are hot, to say the least. What is nice about this season's crop is that they are versatile and there is something to suit all body types. Long and over sized jackets help to elongate your body and when teamed with a skinny pant or short skirt, looks stylish and creates a streamlined look. The boyfriend jackets that are popular this winter will be a great addition to your winter wardrobe.

Blouses, cardigans and sweaters

When shopping for tops, choose loose blouses and long cardigans and sweaters. The boyfriend shirt seen on the runways this winter, as well as the trendy long sweaters, are great choices to camouflage a short waist. Sweaters and cardigans in vogue this winter season are long, flowing and billowy with dolman and raglan style sleeves. These styles are truly flattering for the short waisted body type.

Pants and skirts winter style

Pants or skirts should be chosen with the purpose of making your waist look longer. You can wear all the latest fashions in pants like the boyfriend jeans, the skinny jeans, leggings and wide bottom jeans or pants but choose those that have low rise waist rather than the high waisted ones, especially if you plan to wear your top tucked in. If, however, you are wearing long fitting tops, the rise doesn't really matter. Skirts worn on the hips rather than the waist are not only flattering and feminine but a great asset to your body type.

Dresses for the short waist

Empire line dresses are popular runway fashions this winter and is just the dress to blur the waist lines. Tunic style dresses are another popular winter style this year. They are trendy and versatile and ideal for the short waisted body. Drop waist style dresses are also good choices.

Your style

When shopping for winter clothing, it is important that you try on different styles to see what looks good on you. One thought to keep in mind is that you do want to create a streamline look and to avoid emphasizing your waistline. Belts are great for accessorizing, however, they should be worn lower on the hips to lengthen your waist. As this short preview shows, there are many great winter dress styles this year that flatter the shortwaisted woman.
