4 Steps to Adding Big Volume to Flat Hair

If you're craving big sexy hair, you're not alone. Women have begun flocking in droves to their local salons to try and learn the secrets to having that larger than life hair. This post is going to show you how to get the voluminous hair you want without breaking the bank or even going to a salon,

Step 1 - Shampoo

Use a volumizing shampoo

If you want to achieve big, full hair with loads of volume, start with a volumizing shampoo. We're always told to lather-rinse-repeat and when trying to boost limp locks, this step is crucial. Lather your hair and allow the suds to sit for 30 seconds. This time allows the hair follicles to soak in the volumizing agents. Next you wash out the soapy mess and then start all over again. Why? Hair has a memory to it. Haven't you even tried to part your hair to the right only to find it wants to go left? That's because it remembers it sits to the left and the roots are gaged to tilt that way. So if you're hair remembers it's supposed to be limp and sad, giving it that second wash will really pump it into the know.

Step 2 - Mousse

Mousse it up

The next step on our journey to giant hair is applying volumizing moussse to damp hair. The first thing you need to know about mousse is, you probably need more than you think. Don't think in terms of shampoo, this is mousse, you want a big fluffy glob that sits generously in the palm of your hand. Work the mousse into hair and especially get it into the roots. After you've rubbed the mousse in completely, tip your hair over and give your head and hair a good shake through. This action finished by really working the remainder of the mousse in and gives those roots an extra boost.

Step 3 - Blow Dry

It's blow time!

It's time to bring your volume to life by blowing your hair out. Turn your head upside down and begin to blow dry. As you dry use your free hand to work through and tease your roots. Once your hair is fully dry, flip your head back up and look at the volume you've created! When you brush your hair out don't comb the roots, just gently comb the ends. Working a comb through the roots will flatten hair down a bit.

Step 4 - HairSpray

Set in place

The final step to larger than life hair is to set your voluminous masterpiece. Achieve this by using a lightweight hairspray that will hold hair in place without weighing it down. Hold hairspray at least 10 inches away from head and give a few quick sprays. Allow hairspray time to set, which should only take 30 seconds, and if you feel you've lost any volume, give your roots a quick tease. There you have it, big voluminous locks!

Add a Little Curl

Now that you've achieved big, sexy hair, you can add to this look by curling the ends. For best results, choose a wide barrel curling iron that will give hair big swirling curls. Using a smaller curling iron will break hair down into smaller section and work to reduce the volume you work so hair to achieve. Curl hair around the heated wand, for best results set curling iron to a medium heat setting. Curl hair as you normally would, holding hair on barrel for no more than 10 seconds. If you find your hair didn't achieve the level of curl you desire, repeat and leave hair on barrel for a bit longer. Never go above 20 seconds as this runs the risk of burning through hair.
