From my experience, socks are just as important as the shoe you choose. It's an excellent source to start with.
Your choice is and should be unique to you as your body geometry is something to consider. Your terrain, season, weather etc. The best "depends" on your body and some key questions answered will help you make the most informed choice.
As with any shoe or boot don't forget to break them in with some not so long walks or a short hike. Nothing will ruin your experience more than trying to break in a new pair of shoes on an extensive hike on their maiden voyage ;)
