The dead are often shaved clean in many communities prior to burial. Exhumed bodies show evidence of hair having grown on shaved scalp.

It doesn't. The skin resesses as the underlying tissue breaks down leaving the appearance that growth has ocurred but in actuality, just more of the same har and or fingernails is visible.

It is now said that it doesn't. There is only an appearance of lengthening hair by the shrinkage of the skin.
