How can I make my hair grow faster and stronger?

I have been taking hair, skin and nails vitamins, bought a boars hair brush and have been washing my hair every other day, all of which were recommended in an article I read. I am still seeing a lot of fragility, though, and my hair just generally grows slowly.

Im no expert. My hair grows slow aswell, although I have managed to grow it way past my shoulders, and it appears rich& strong.
Here are the simple things I do which have results (you may have tried already)

Wash my hair every second day so natural oils can surface (daily washing made it brittle and weak) trim the hair ends every two months, apply hair-mask weekly keeps hair nourished and retains strength.

Do not under-estimate plenty of water & good rest/sleep. Hope it helps smile

I started taking vitamin D for lack of sunshine here in MT.  My nails and hair grew like crazy.  I assume that was the reason.

There's no sure fire way to make it grow faster, however there are things you can do to stimulate the scalp for hair growth. Hair growth is a combination of the damage to the hair, the hairs natural type and genetics.

My hair grows quite quickly and to be honest I don't brush it very often because it doesn't need it, brushing the hair when wet will make it more fragile as hair strands are like elastic that will be stretched each time you tug on them wet. Stop using any heat or too many products on the hair and this will help.

You should try keeping your scalp walk, regular exercise which causes even and good blood flow to the scalp can stimulate hair growth, there's nothing better for the hair than your natural oils. Turn the temperature of the water down so it isn't hot and  just leave the hair alone as best you can smile

I Don't think you have a lot of control over how fast your hair grows except for  good rest and nutrition but you can definitely make it stronger by being gentle with it. Try to let it dry naturally, don't overdue hair coloring or perms, go easy on straighteners and curling irons. Like the rest of our body a little TLC goes  a long way.

I know this may sound kind of stupid but I noticed when I was pregnant that my hair grew very fast.  I thought it was hormones causing it to speed growth up but it wasn't.
Every time I was pregnant my hair grew about 2 feet in 8 months.  After my son was born I kept taking my prenatal vitamins.  I figured since I was breast-feeding, the vitamins would help my milk out.  The whole time I was taking the vitamins I noticed my hair growth was fast and healthy.  Once I stopped taking them, it slowed down to a drawl.
I have started back up taking prenatal vitamins again twice to test my theory and it works.  Maybe it's the folic acid that is in the prenatal vitamins that makes the difference.  It also strengthened my nails which were always brittle and thin.

Drink lots of water and eat lots of protein to keep the hair strong. Do deep conditioning treatments (masks) at least once a week too. Keep the hair moisturised/hydrated. You may also want to check my article here because every hair type needs different things: http://eatforcheaper.hubpages.com/hub/G … -and-Glory

Happy to help in any way smile

You're off to a good start with nutrition (vitamins)!
I would recommend giving yourself scalp massages and brushing in circles at your scalp.
Also, mint shampoo stimulates hair follicles and helps them to grow faster.
I use Aveda Rosemary Mint, I have also used Organix Peppermint shampoo.
As for your hair being fragile, go easy on the heat and styling tools. When you need to use them be sure to use a heat protectant
Those make hair fragile. If you bleach your hair STOP, that always makes hair fragile.
If you already don't do those, try using different damage products.
I like Aveda's Damage Control spray. Use it on wet or dry hair. It also works as a detangler.
Some people have naturally more fragile hair, which unfortunately you can't do much about. Be sure to take good care of it!

I take 5,000 to 10,000 mcg of biotin daily. It takes a few months to see results. You'll notice your fingernails/toenails growing harder and faster. I also take a prenatal as well. Wash your hair with a shampoo that contains biotin and vitamin E.

There's only a set rate your hair can grow (and a set length it can reach). So don't hope for Jack and the Beanstalk kind of growth overnight but there are some things you can do to help.

Really all you're doing is helping your body grow hair at the rate it's possible. But most people don't do enough to help it grow so chances are if you follow a few of these your hair will be growing faster than it is now.

Start with your lifestyle and diet. Try to get some exercise and reduce stress (it's a growth blocker). Your diet is important as well. Your body needs nutrition to grow, right? Well your hair is no different. A good healthy balance is important but improve your protein and get some flax seeds in your cereal at least.

Check the hair products you're using. Tough shampoos can wear down your hair (this does affect growth) so try to find some gentle alternatives. Your should try to avoid too much heat so towel dry and brush lightly.

Lastly your nutrition doesn't do you any good if it doesn't actually get to your hair. You can slowly rub your scalp once a day or so and you'll feel it get warmer. This means there is more blood passing through and that helps bring protein to the hair follicles to help them grow.

I'm not a hair stylist or anything but I did learn from http://longhaired.net/ and that really helped me correct a problem with my last cut!

If you really love your hair, you need to give few things importance and follow it judiciously.
    1. Massage your hair thoroughly at least for half an hour with a herbal oil using your finger tips and not the nails. Before going to bed, you should cover your hair with a clean cloth so that the oil does not spread over  pillows.
    2. Keep the oil on hair overnight and wash it with a good herbal shampoo next norning..
    3. While shampooing, always remember that the hair should be washed from a direct  tape water or flow of water and not with the help of a mug etc.,  as flow of water will help remove all the dust particles and also the shampoo contents. .
    4. Apply some good conditioner for two minutes on your hair and repeat the same washing technique.
    5. Let the hair be dry and only than comb it slowly.
    6. Use shampoo on your hair for not more than 3 times a week.
    .

Try kelp, which contains high iodine content.
Iodine deficiency is more common than we think and can be easily combated.

Try oiling your hair once in a while with either coconut oil, or castor oil. Keep it for an hour or two and rinse with water. It will definitely start making your hair healthier.
