Why do female attorneys wear long hair?

Every female attorney I have met wears her hair long. When I was a juror on a misdemeanor case a few years ago, I noticed that all of the female attorneys had long hair. Now, as I watch the television show, "Suits", I notice that all of the female attorneys wear their hair very long. Is there some kind of statement of power or something about women and long hair in the legal industry? It's almost like, if you are a female attorney you are received better if you have long hair. Does anyone else notice this? What are your thoughts.

I think you have a very good point here. If they are on top of their game, their sweet and gentle looks can take us by surprise. Good strategy.

One of my clients is an attorney and when we met for the first time, the first thing she said to me was, "Hi, I like your hair..." Then, she introduced herself. I use to wear my hair really long because it was easier to manage. She had long hair too.

A ponytail? That's so cool! I agree with you that it shouldn't be about the hair, but the talent. Yet, we certainly do notice the hair.

Hi Lisa HW, thank you for sharing your take on this. I like your comment about women trying to be "a fake man". I enjoy having my hair long (so does my husband). Long hair is easier to create both strong (manlike) and feminine looks.

Hmmmmm! skgrao, I never thought of it from the judge's point of view. Glad you weighed in on this because it adds a whole other angle. Thank you.

Hi Veronica78, I think I need to get out more. I have never seen a female lawyer with short hair. Now, I'm on the search for such a "creature". Thank you for sharing your views. At least now I know female lawyers with short hair do exist. :)

Hi duffsmom. Thank you for sharing your findings. It may just be the area I live, but I have never seen a female attorney with short hair. But, now that I know they exist, I'm on the lookout for one. Thanks. :)

I like your answer, and you could be right about the extensions because it really is hard to grow hair as long and gorgeous as I've seen on so many of these ladies.

It's really quite interesting. Now after asking the question, whenever I meet a female attorney, I take note of her hair.

I live here in sunny California. Botox, straight hair, and bangs. That's the look. Yeah, why shouldn't female attorneys get in on the act?
