Life is a personal journey. There is no age limit for having long hair.
It really comes down to how a person wants to look and if they don't mind keeping it up.
Having said that I have not heard many heterosexual men suggest to their wife or girlfriend they should (cut) their hair. It's usually the woman's girlfriends, her hairstylist, or some famous woman with a haircut that inspires them to consider cutting their hair.
Not many men are clamoring for their significant others to don a "boy cut hairstyle" and yet if that is what the woman was sporting when they met they tend to be much more accepting of it!
Shorter hair always draws more attention to one's facial features. Unfortunately not everyone has the "face" to pull it off in the eyes of many. However at the end of the day it comes down to what (you) want.

I'm 43 and my hair is past my waist. I don't think age matters at all as long as a woman wants to have long hair, she should.

Yeah, your probably right. I'm 48 and my kid's girlfriend and my mother are telling me to cut my hair.  It is pretty long, almost to my waist. I dye it dirty blonde and my hair is dark brown with a little bit of grey naturally.

dandelionweeds, It's just as I surmised. Other (women) are telling you that you should cut your hair. It's your life and you're responsible for your appearance. Imagine cutting your hair and NOT liking it. Neither woman would assume responsibility

Never.  It  is by choice.  I wear my hair long and then I go to short.  It's short now but after a year or two I will let it grow out.  It grows below my waist when it is long.  I'm 49
