   What is the best cream or ointment for healing scarred facial skin after surgery?
   
   After having basal cell cancer removed from the lip area, what would you recommend to a person that is trying to help aid in the healing process?  There were four layers taken to get the cancer, and some possible scarring is likely to happen.  Is there a good aloe or vitamin E cream or ointment that you can recommend?  Or something totally different from that?  I am speaking of after the main scar is healed and for the weeks after where its doing the long term healing.  I know up until then, its Dr.'s orders.  Thank you!

   There are many- these include pure vitamin E oil- opening/pricking a capsule open would suffice- Aloe Vera is good but one has to make sure it is  a high enough percentage- believe it or not, the old prep of Preparation-H, still available in Canada. It has the ingredient LYCD/Biodyne in it. If memory serves me right, it is some derivative of a yeast culture. Biodyne/LYCD products are available on Amazon but I have no data how good they are. Most importantly, timing is of the importance as the longer a scar goes untreated, the greater the chance of a visible scar. Of course preventing any secondary infection is important but the latest data shows the initial application of Neosporin or  Polysporin is enough- then normal cleansing should be enough.

   I had a major burn on my arm last year and all I used to treat it was a 99.9% Aloe Vera gel. It is available in health food shops herein the UK. It does cost a bit but it is worth every penny. It has many uses and is great for scar reduction.

      I am a huge fan of aloe vera and natural products.  I may try to get a hold of some higher percentage pure aloe vera gel.  Thank you for the comment.

   The best thing I've ever used for healing scar tissue is authentic, pure shea butter. Don't settle for less. I had a huge scar on my leg that removed a chunk of flesh all the way to the bone. In a few applications it began to heal, and after a few months the scar was barely there. It's often used for stretch marks and c-sections, too. Try it!

   There are countless remedies for scarring.  It's important to keep in mind that getting scars of any sort on any part of the body, to fade, takes a good long time.  In other words, don't become discouraged.  Also, depending on size and coloring, a scar cannot be erased entirely..(which is why they're called "scars")
   If the surgery was done by a plastic surgeon, I'm going to safely assume he/she has given you the means & direction to caring for the surgical site during the first couple of months afterwards. You're wise to follow those instructions.
   
   I'm sure you're aware of products made and advertised specifically for "scars."   I honestly have had no experience with any of them.  However, several pure vitamin oils can be helpful, alone or use in combination with each other...Vitamin E, C & A.   An excellent product is "Bio Oil" sold in a small glass bottle at any pharmacy.
   
   Regular use (especially at night prior to bedtime) is important.  Massage these oils gently for as long as you can, to increase blood flow as you apply the oil.  Another beneficial facial oil for overall use is Argon Oil.

      I have never heard of bio oil, and will have to look for it.  I love using natural vitamins and minerals or herbs.  I will look up the bio oil and remember about gently massaging the area.  Yes, for now, I am following doctors orders totally.

   I had bad acne that left purple/red scars on my face, neck, upper arms, chest and back.  I tried all sorts of scar healers to no avail.  Someone suggested comfrey ointment or creams.  I got the ointment and  I applied it every night and morning.  I was thrilled when I noticed the fresh scars faded in a couple of weeks, the old scars took a bit longer.  It made such a difference to me as I had  felt like the ugly duckling. 
   
   In April my brother had a melanoma cut out of his leg, down to the shin bone. He had to have a skin graft placed over the area.   It looked terrible, I dressed it every night as per the Plastic Surgeons instructions.  It left a horrible 3" x 4" scar on his leg.  I gave him a tub of comfrey ointment I had made.  He applied it twice a day and now you can barely see a difference between the scar and the normal skin.

      Wow, I am a big fan of herbal remedies.  I had no idea about the healing properties of comfrey.  Thank you so much for sharing. That is excellent news for the both of you, wow.
