If a ring you are thinking of buying does not have a number stamped on it, I would steer clear of it. All genuine gold jewelry should be stamped with a number, i.e. 10K, 14K, etc. If there isn't a number stamped on it, the piece may not even be made of real gold, but only a base metal like brass or plated brass. If you see a stamp such as 14KE or 14KHGE, that means the piece is plated with 14K gold and is not gold all the way through. The E stands for electroplate, by the way. HGE stands for heavy gold electroplate.
