In 1889, just one week after committing himself to the asylum at Saint Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Remy, France, Vincent Van Gogh began painting the Irises. While he thought it was just a study, Van Gogh's brother, Theo, wrote that this painting of the Irises "strikes the eye from afar. The Irises are a beautiful study full of air and life."

The Irises were inspired by Japanese wood blocks, which can be seen in the use of the black contour lines in the painting. Also Available:

I saw the Van Gogh Starry Night painting in person - it makes you feel like all those circles are moving and spinning - so it is perfect for an unbrella!

I hope each of these umbrellas comes with an 'information tag' so when someone stops you in the street and says "Who made that great picture for your umbrella?" you can tell them "It's Van Goh" (or whoever)!

These umbrellas are really cool, I actually never considered to have a painting on my umbrella, but the idea is pretty awesome.
