I am going to share a secret with you on how one of Avon Products is being used in to deter what we call the midge from biting us, and used around the world to fight off the bugs. The Midge is a minute flying biting beasties, renowned in Scotland for spoiling our summer,

You know I could tell you that AVON are dedicated to bringing you the very best from cosmetics, skincare, pampering, fitness, lingerie and jewelry, how Avon is truly the one stop shop for all your beauty and lifestyle products... yeah you know all that.

If you have ever tried to dine al fresco in Scotland, note: not many restaurants offer this feature, because just when you are taking a bite out of your starter, there are thousands of them making a meal from you.

And do you know that you can even get the midges forecast!

It arrives with the summer air and descends on the unsuspecting, you can see the swarms and there are clouds of the wee beasties in the air. Just looking for an suspecting body with blood to suck, It is only the females that midgey that bites, and usually is an itchy raised small lump, one that if you scratch it, the more you need to scratch it.

By a complete accident it was found that people wearing Avon Skin so Soft did not get bitten?

Skin so soft for Golfers footballers ..

Your Outdoor Summer Activities must have Insect Repellant

Does your insect repellant work. Please do not Laugh, even our members of the elite armed forces are rumoured to use this remedy (although not on combat as the fragrance could give away their position)

It goes without saying that if you take part in these activities it is likely you have been affected by some sort of bite.

I live near Loch Lomond, and when I tell people this they immediately say, "oh your so lucky", say that after you have survived a "midge" attack with no protection!

There are parts of Scotland that midges don't seem to like, the drier parts (is there such a place in Scotland)

My husbands Golfing Trolley not only houses his golf essentials, but tucked in the front pocket is his spray bottle. When he is out Golfing he can be seen spraying this, and often is asked "Where do you get it?" He replies proudly "Avon"

Although may I add it took one year on holiday (actually Bulgaria) for my husband to be convinced it worked, he looked like he had some sort of disease all over his body, and I think we counted 10 bites on one lump, our daughter and I had Zero. Point proven. So yes I use it abroad too.

Do men not know about Avon?

Or perhaps just think its for woman, so if your husband/partner laughs when you suggest them using this product, use it yourself, go out, especially somewhere like a walk in the Forrest, I will bet he will soon be begging you for some.

I heard a newscast many years ago about skin so soft being used in the army to help prevent mosquitoes from biting. I kind of figure that if the army is using it, then they have probably done research on the product, and you can rest assured that it will work.

I am an avon representative in Ireland and I sold 4 bottles of Skin so Soft spray to a wedding party travelling to Spain. Two of the party both men have suffered badly with mosquito bites over the years and dreaded the trip. Five people used the product, none were bitten. I was delighted it worked and that my customer told me and I have no doubt she'll mention it to her friends as well. Love those success stories.

We get midges in the garden in the evening, and where I grew up the air was thick with them and if you were outside you literally got eaten alive. This sounds good. I sometimes spray some mosquito killer around the garden and kill off a few before venturing out as well.

I had to laugh when I saw this lens, because i used to use this as a horse-fly repellent for my horse! It works so much better than what i was using (naff off) and after i used that on ME (i was being particularly irritated that day i remember) I would never use it again on my horse as it burned like the blazes!

I love this stuff and have been known to even use it on my horse instead of the really harsh chemical sprays. :)

Speaking as one who once collected over 100 midge bites in 15 minutes sitting near a stream in Scotland I am absolutely fascinated by this revelation. The midge is one of the reasons why I'm reluctant to return for a holiday in Scotland so to hear that there is something which protects against them is really great!

How come nowhere else buy Scotland has the midge? Or do they just call it something elsewhere?

It's been years since I have used Skin so Soft. Mosquitoes (must be kissing cousins to your midgey) aren't as bad as they were when I was growing up. I am sure this would have the same effects on them as well.

My mother sold Avon for 35 years before she finally stopped. She still has shelves full of it, and I grew up using Skin So Soft -- and have used it as an insect repellant for years. I had to come bless this lens for the memories it brings.

Top tip! A scout leader of mine used to swear by a big fat cigar for the entire duration of scout camp to drive the midgies away - not the sort of thing you'd see nowadays!

I've always liked Avon, don't think there's an Avon lady near me but we did just move here. I had never thought of using so soft as repellent. We have big mosquito problems here and my OFF doesn't seem to be working. May have to try that.
