Bibs for Babies and Toddlers

Drooling is a natural thing for babies. It's the by-product of saliva production especially when babies are developing control of swallowing and the muscles of the mouth. Some babies drool when they are teething. It begins when a baby is about three months old and continues through toddler age. Since clothing becomes wet, babies are susceptible to skin rashes particularly around the neck and chest. As the mother of three children, I learned how important baby bibs are in protecting babies' delicate skin. Bibs are an essential accessory in a baby's wardrobe.

Shopping for baby bibs is an adventure. Today, there are so many styles, fabrics and patterns to choose from it is a daunting task. The goal is to choose bibs that will keep your baby comfortable, dry and healthy.

Things to Consider When Shopping for Baby Bibs

Choosing the Best for Your Baby

As a general rule, when shopping for baby bibs, it's a good idea to check different brands and read product reviews before making a purchasing decision. Here's some important shopping tips:

Easy to Use: Look at the style and how the bib fastens around your baby. They usually fasten with Velcro or snap closures...some are adjustable. Some pull over the head. Choose one that works best for you and your baby.

Good Fit: Bibs should fit around your baby's neck comfortably, but not too tight. It should fit big enough to protect baby's clothing without being oversized or get in the way of your baby's movement.

Fabric: Soft and absorbent fabric is best for drooling babies because it helps to absorb moisture and keep your baby dry. A waterproof liner helps protect your baby's clothing.

Easy to Wash: You'll be doing a lot of baby laundry, so choose bibs that are machine wash and dry. Some bibs with plastic liners need to be line dried. Check the manufacturer's label.

Design: Baby bibs are available in cute and clever designs, shapes and sizes. Check fabric content, durability and construction before purchasing. Just because it's cute doesn't mean it's the best choice for you and your baby.

Protect Your Baby's Tender Skin

Classic Style Bibs for Everyday Use

Classic infant bibs are generally smaller than feeding bibs and toddler bibs and made of soft absorbent fabric. Their purpose is to soak up baby's drool and help protect their skin from wetness and irritation. Babies wear drool bibs much of the day, so choosing the best bib for your baby is important.

There are many brands to choose from such as anden + anais, Gerber, Carters, Luvable Friends, Mud Pie, green sprouts and many others.

My favorite classic bibs are green sprouts stay-dry bibs for infants. They do a great job of keeping babies dry, comfortable and healthy. I enjoy giving these bibs as shower gifts especially to new mothers. A gift that makes life a little easier is always appreciated.

I love these Matimati drool bibs! When I ordered a set of these bibs for a friend's new baby girl, I saw for myself how incredibly soft they are and how well made they are. They look adorable!

Although I had many designs to choose from, I decided on these solid color bibs with a simple arrow design. They compliment her baby's outfits without overpowering them. She loves them!
