What are the Best Camisole Body Shapers?

Updated on October 14, 2014

Looking for Camisole Shapewear?

When I had my first child, I bounced right back to my pre-pregnancy weight without any problem. The second child, though, did a number on my tummy. Though exercise and eating healthy are part of my everyday life, I've found it much more difficult to make my clothes fall properly. I purchased some expensive shapewear for a wedding, but that was not going to be part of my everyday wardrobe. Still, I needed something.

I wear tank tops almost every day, and so I thought perhaps someone had invented shapewear in the form of a camsole or tank top that helped firm up the tummy. As it turns out, there are a number of great choices.

Maidenform Flexees Shapewear Tank Top

The Maidenform Flexees Shapewear Tank Top is the best-selling cami shapewear on Amazon at the time of this writing, and it is rated somewhere between 4 and 5 stars, so women really like it. However, there is some confusion over whether the top has changed without the seller changing the picture. The Flexees that gets the great reviews has, like in the photo, a wide band in the middle third of the top. Apparently at least a couple of reviewers got a different top that was not reflected in the photo.

I purchased a Flexees top from Costco that seems to be similar in type to the one described by the reviewers who got a different looking top. I like it quite a bit. It doesn't ride, it's not so tight as to be uncomfortable, and I'm thinking about buying more.

Sassybax Women's Underwire Torso Trim Shapewear

A lot of women also really like the Sassybax brand. This underwire version has mixed reviews; it appears if you are particularly heavy on top, this might not be for you. It also doesn't appear to have adjustable straps. However, the women who love Sassybax really love it, so if it fits you, this would be a great choice. One great feature about this cami is that if it works, you would not need to wear a bra under it.

SPANX On Top and In Control Modern Scoop Tank

The gold standard of shapewear is Spanx. Even if you've never tried on any sort of shapewear, you've heard of Spanx. On Top and In Control is one of their most popular series of camis and tank tops. Women like that it doesn't have any sort of obvious panels to advertise that they are wearing shapewear. I'm fairly modest, so I would probably wear a top over and shaping cami, but it's nice to have the option if you don't want.

Because Spanx is so well-known, their shapewear is not cheap. But according to all their positive reviews, they are worth it!

TC Fine Intimates Seamless Firm Control Camisole Shapewear

The TC Fine Intimates brand is another very popular brand of shapewear. I was particularly interested in this cami, since it has a shelf bra that reviewers say actually works (!) as well as effective shaping of the belly area. Several of the camis have underwire so you don't have to wear a bra, but some women don't like underwire at all. This cami would be a perfect choice for them.

Also, at less than $50, it's much less pricey than some of the others.

Bali Women's Comfortshape Seamless Sculpt Tank

Bali is most known for bras and underwear rather than specifically shapewear, but their products have been getting good press lately, so it's worth taking a look at them. These are on the less expensive side, so they're also worth trying out to see if you like them before moving on to something more expensive. What's nice about this is that there's no underwire but there is gathering around the chest area, so you can choose to wear a bra underneath or not.

In addition, I saw some reviews that said it does not make you sweat. That is an almost unheard-of feat where shapewear is concerned. That alone should put Bali on your short list.

Yummie Tummie Womens Original Tank

A list of best shaping camis wouldn't be complete without mentioning Yummie Tummie Tanks. You can buy them next to Spanx at most department stores, but you can also order them here. They are a very popular brand, but have mixed reviews on Amazon. Other websites generally rate them higher than they are at Amazon, and they are on most lists of major shapers.

They are mid-priced, cheaper than Spanx but more expensive than some of the least expensive brands. You can find most Yummie Tummies for about $50.

Do you have a favorite shaping camisole?

Nice selection-- I'll definitely be taking a look at a few. Sad to say but I've reached that age where getting one of these has become necessary... :-(
