Body Image: Use the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) to Appreciate Your Body

Updated on January 11, 2008

If your body doesn't match the media body image, this lens is for you!

In our culture, we are bombarded with imagery showing 'perfect' bodies. Stick figure female models and perfectly buffed male models in glossy magazines, media, and impress on us how we should look. However, like me, I'm guessing your shape, size, ripples, and curves don't fit the fashion stereotype.

The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a form of 'emotional acupuncture' that uses gentle tapping with the finger tips (rather than needles) to stimulate the body's subtle energy system and relieve emotional issues. The basics are free and easy to learn.

Use EFT to Accept Your Body

In my EFT practice, I help clients accept and appreciate their own body by having them stand in front of a mirror and apply EFT to the parts of their body that they do and don't like. Use the pictures of the EFT Tapping Points below, try the following procedure on a part of your body that you don't like.

Start by tapping on the Karate chop point, and say the following words:

"Even though its confronting to look at myself in the mirror, I deeply and completely accept myself." Be sure to look into your own eyes as you speak.

"Even though I'm not comfortable with the way my body looks, I deeply and completely accept myself."

"Even though there are some things I don't like about my body, I'm sure there are some good things to appreciate about my body that I just haven't noticed."

Now continue with a few rounds of tapping starting with the things you don't like about your body and then alternating with the things you do like as follows:

Head: "My nose is too big"

Eyebrows: "My eyes are to close together"

Side of Eyes: "My chest is too small"

Under Eyes: "My skin is too dry"

Top Lip: "My bum is too big"

Chin: "I do like my calves"

Collarbones: "I like the sparkle in my eyes"

Under arms: "My thighs are too big"

Wrists: "I like the colour of my hair"

Continue tapping for several rounds with all your likes and dislikes, then return to tapping on the karate chop point and say:

"Even though my body isn't the same as everyone else's, I choose to appreciate it anyway."

"Even though my body has its weak points, I'm now noticing and paying attention to its good points also."

"Even though I've always felt uncomfortable with my body, I deeply and completely accept my body and treat it with the respect I deserve."

There's much more to EFT

EFT is the most successful health innovation in the last 100 years and works for every emotional and physical issue you can name including:

trauma and abuse, stress and anxiety, PTSD, fears and phobias, depression, addiction, allergies, ADD/ADHD, anger management, headaches, back pains, and breathing difficulties, and much more.

Even though EFT appears simple, correctly and artfully applied EFT often gets results when nothing else has worked.

Research has validated the many ways physical health is intimately connected to subtle energies circulating in the body, which are constantly influenced by one's emotional state and mental performance. By learning specific tapping methods for balancing the body's energies, gaining positive wellbeing becomes easier for almost everyone, whether it's done as self-therapy or as a healing practice for clients and loved ones.

EFT is all about people getting the care they need at the right time. Check these EFT Training DVDs to find how EFT training has made life easier even for those with long-unresolved conditions.

A very enlightening lens, I like the sound of EFT and as a great believer in the Law of Attraction I think it's important to make a conscious effort each and every day to appreciate who we are. Keep up the good work, 5 stars from me

A good way to do EFT/Tapping is to stand naked in the mirror and start right from the top of your head all the way down to your toes and tap EVERYTHING you don't like..
