Women's Bohemian Style Dresses
Who is the Boho Girl?
The Bohemian girl has a free spirited Gypsy soul that treads a path all her own.
She follows no ones rules but her own, she flies free and thrives on being unique.
She's a hipster who vibrates on a higher level. She has a vibrant, colorful, sometimes flamboyant personality and has her own naturally unique style.
She is an independent soul who wears what she wants, when she wants and how she wants and has the knack for looking amazing by doing so.
She doesn't have to follow trends because she sets her own trends with a fashion sense of flair that others always try to emulate. She doesn't follow....people follow her.
Having the same loose free spirited attitude for life, bohemian fashions are a combination of flowing fabrics and colors mixed with multi-culture patterns, textures, prints and accessories.
No rules and no holds barred. Wear what you want with style and the flair to match your own personality with the free spirit of a butterfly and the direction of the wind.
The Boho girl takes the latest fashion design trends and mixes it up with vintage finds and designer pieces to enhance her own unique sense of style. Are You a Boho Girl?
Where Did Boho Style Originate?
The Bohemian or Boho style started in the Bohemia region of Europe back in the 1640s from what is now known as the Czech Republic.
It has evolved over the centuries and just about every era in history has had a movement of free-thinking artist, poets, musicians and writers who adhere to the free-spirited way of thought and artistic expression as well as the clothing.
First arising was the Bohemian "movement" of 19th Century Paris; a free thinking movement of artists and writers.
It arrived again during the Dada Movement after WWI in the 1920s to the early 1930s; then to the Beatniks in the 1940s and 50s, after WWII.
The style, mixed in with a Renaissance flair, came back with a passion in the mid-1960s during the Hippy Movement and continued into the early 1970s.
The Bohemian style of fashion, like the phoenix rising out of the ash, rose again around 1990 and has continued with an up and down trending flow of a carnival ride ever since.
Today Boho chic fashions are embraced by those who express a romantic and avant-garde artistic lifestyle in a fast-paced modern world.
Trendy Boho Celebs
Top Designers and Hollywood Celebs Have Gone Boho
Top fashion designers on the fashion runways and the Red Carpet of Hollywood are all seeing strong promotions of colorful and free thinking Boho Chic Clothing and fashions once again.
Celebrities who are currently rocking the Boho Chic scene include Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sheryl Crow, Jennifer Garner, Stevie Nicks, Mary Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, to name but a few.
Many fashion critics have judged the Olsen twins, Mary Kate Olsen especially, for riding too close to the fine line between the uber-vogue Boho Chic and the eccentric, characterized by a messy, freshly fucked look and wearing anything and everything that strikes her fancy.
Personally, I think her Boho clothing combinations and messy, unfettered locks are wickedly charming and very befitting of a trendy New York City scene girl.
Keep in mind there are only three things to remember when searching for a boho chic maxi dress online.....

Boho Style Full Length Dress
Gypsy05 Designer Spring/Summer Collection
Accessorizing Boho Chic Women's Fashion Maxi Long Length Dresses
A maxi length Bohemian, Gypsy, hippie style dress is made of flowing, airy light fabric. It can be any fabric from gauzy cotton to chiffon silk as long as it is loose and free flowing.
The fabric can be a solid, gorgeous color with embroidered detailing like a Renaissance peasant style, but usually is a print of some kind, or perhaps fabric hand painted, tie dyed or batik art. If you really want to be bad ass get one in an ethnic-inspired print.
Creamy white worn with natural ivory, tan and brown accessories always looks fabulous!
Once you have the dress selected which you want to wear, the accessories selected are as important, perhaps more so, than the dress itself.
Women Boho Floral V-Neck Chiffon Spaghetti Strap Beach Maxi Sundress by Nicky's Gift
I love this dress! I love the layers, I love the ruffle tiers, I love the fabric and I love The the flow and the colors of this gorgeous chiffon Boho style maxi dress!
It is a visually appealing dress to lift spirits and makes me think of a flowering meadow blooming in spring.
It can be paired with a Levi jacket as shown in this photo or stay on the ethereal side, remaining uber feminine, with a flowing chiffon or lace Boho Kimono with fringe.
Boho Jewelry Accessories are Important
Jewelry is an important accessory to a Boho outfit, but of course, it is important when accessorizing any outfit. But with a Boho look, accessorizing with the right pieces may be more important.
Start with lots of bangles. I like wearing a good mix of texture, medium and color. Bracelets made of woven embroidery thread, braided strands of leather, Native American Indian silver and turquoise, mirrored bracelets from India, mosaics from Poland are all wonderful examples of a great mix of available bracelets to chose from in today's fashion selections.
A single long necklace or layering multiple strands is entirely up to your personal choice. Why not wear a choker and multi stand necklaces, or find a really nice statement piece to wear solo? If that's what you like do it.
Play with them to see what you like best. Can't decide which necklace you want to wear from your personal collection? Why decide? Wear them all.
If it makes you happy, and you like what you see, then it is the right choice for you. That's what it is all about. Being free enough to wear what you like without someone dictating what you should or should not wear.
Wear lots of interesting rings. Wear rings on all of your fingers and toes too if you like. When wearing sandals during the summer, toe rings and ankle bracelets rock.
I am partial to Native American Navajo Indian jewelry and have different pieces of turquoise and silver that I like to wear on every finger. Look for beautiful rings with unique patterns and gemstones.
Wear a Scarf or a Wide Floppy Hat
Wear a scarf. I like using a scarf for many reasons. Tie it around our head for a more gypsy look or wrap it around your hips. Should the weather turn chilly take it off and wrap it around your shoulders like a shawl.
Not everyone is a hat person, but I love wearing hats. I have a collection of hats that I love to wear for different occasions and different seasons.
If you can only have one, then I would get a comfy, large brim, floppy hat to wear with a boho maxi dress for this spring and summer. If you can, stock up on a few of them now.
Belts are awesome. Thick wide leather belts are trending again and will rock with some outfits, while thin strands of metal chain will work for others.
Silver concho belts are fabulous worn with a dress or a skirt and top. A scarf or sash can be used in place of a belt with a maxi dress too.
Avoid plastic, shiny belts. Besides just being a plastic creep show, Bohemian style is all about staying closer to Mother Earth and keeping it natural.
While we are keeping it natural, handbags made from mixed media textiles are epic cool as are leather bags, fringed or not . Embroidery stitched cotton hobo bags or woven, crochet and macrame bags are fabulous Boho accessories.
Add a Trendy Third Piece Accessory
Wear a cute trendy jacket or a flowing kimono as a third piece accessory for your Boho outfit. Personally, I don't think any outfit is complete unless wearing a jacket and a hat.
Whether it is a denim jacket cut-off embellished with studs and rhinestones, a kimono (such as this one) or an oversize shirt, it's all about layering.
As for shoes as the finishing touch, any open toed sandal or leather boots will rock with a maxi dress. If you really want to stay on trend right now find an awesome wedge heel or a platform sole sandal.
Flat sandals are a better choice if doing Cochella Fest this April, or any music fest this summer. They are much easier on the feet if doing a lot of walking.
Design And Colour Cardign Dress with Free Shipping from Sheinside
This chiffon dress is a great piece! I love it for either winter or summer.
I love the versatility of this tie dye print, button down, chiffon cardigan dress.
I can wear it as is; buttoned as a dress with long sleeves down or rolled up with a wide leather belt, a leather fringed handbag and leather boots.
As an alternative, I can wear it with cutoff jean shorts and a tank top, unbuttoned and open as a long, flowing, cardigan third piece accessory.
It packs well so I can take it on trips and also wear it as a swimsuit cover up.

This is a perfect example of how a strapless tube dress (like the one featured below) can be accessorized. Go with light tan and gold pieces or dark brown boots and brown accessories.
During warm days on the beach, I would swap out a pair of flat tan sandals for the boots and use a natural woven handbag instead of the fringed leather purse.
Zillij Tube Tulip Dress by Gypsy 05
I think this Zillij Tube Tulip Dress totally rocks.
The tube top style is fabulous for the summer months and the high-low bottom skirt makes a fashion forward statement with its tulip fold front.
Its unique batik dyed effect print throughout the dress gives it a vintage 1960s hippy look. This is the dress we all want to have in our closet for the summer! Pair this with a cool kimono or denim jacket and you are sure to make heads turn!
Toss a cool silk scarf around your neck, grab a floppy hat and a pair of shades and head out the door looking fabulous to a summer rock fest.
In the fall throw on a scarf, put on a pair of tights, add a warmer jacket and a wool fedora for a whole different look.
Classic Example of a Bohemian Chic Outfit
I think this is a classic example of a well put together boho outfit. She is wearing a long flowing chiffon maxi dress made with an American Indian inspired geometric pattern fabric.
When DesignbyTraci selected the accessories to complement the outfit, she chose to pull the dark blue from dress pattern to work from in her design.
She choose a dark blue hat, a midnight blue suede fringed purse, and a Mexican inspired fringed dark blue poncho.
She chose tan flip flop sandals which are fine, but I think I would have looked for a dark blue pair of sandals or clogs.
I like the dark blue she chose to go with, but the colors in the dress give great versatility. She could of as easily gone with tan or brown giving the opportunity to stay with a casual look where the tan sandals would have been perfect.
She could also have gone with gold to dress it up for evening wear outfit.
This is a good example for picking accessories to go with the Michael Star Kaleidoscope Print Halter Maxi Dress featured below.

A fabulous example of a modern day Boho trend. Pair cowgirl boots, a cowgirl hat and gorgeous Native American Zuni or Navajo Indian turquoise jewelry with a beautiful handkerchief hem boho dress.
I would also add a fringed handbag, a denim cut off and a cool pair of shades.
Annabella Corset Bodice Handkerchief Hem Dress by Sakkas
I would wear it to a Renaissance Fair, or I'd rock it at a summer fest concert.
But who wouldn't love just strolling on the pier wearing this tie-dye bohemian dress? It is an ideal addition to a summer wardrobe.
I love the mint green colors, but if you don't, there are 5 other colors to choose from, like the red and black shown on the right, and they are all awesome!
The corseted waistline makes it a comfy fit regardless of your waist measurements.
The camisole neckline is great out in the sun as a sundress, but will work equally well in the evening with the addition of a kimono style boho jacket or a fringed silk shawl.
I especially love the beautiful asymmetrical handkerchief style skirt and I think you will love how it looks on too. You just can't beat a tie-dyed dress for a boho hippy fashion statement.
Stonewashed Rayon Embroidered Spaghetti Straps Dress by Sakkas
I had a dress just like this in the 60"s.
I think it is great that boho gypsy fashions came back in style again and are now considered a classic look.
This trendy stonewashed fabric fashion dress is embroidered and has lace accents. Layer it with accessories like in the photo above.
I would wear it with a cool jacket, pair of sandals and a wide brim hat as a casual day dress and then dress it up to take it out in the evening with a soft cardigan style kimono and a pair of boots. It is available in 10 different colors.
