Creative, Simple & CareFREE
When I think of Boho Hairstyles, I think natural, fresh, and very simple.
"Tousled hair which just seems to fall in place, a type of organized chaos. Or maybe some soft braided strands of hair loosely held back just far enough to let the sunshine tickle your face."
Achieving a Boho Hairstyle is much easier than it seems. The secret is that the less perfect, the better. It's all about letting those wavy locks of hair fall completely free.
But how do we get those waves? There are many ways to get your locks to dance to the Boho wave, keep reading to find out some great techniques and see some fabulous Boho Hairstyles along the way.

How to get those Boho Waves
Crunch it, Mess it, Curl it, Mess it More
Let your creativity soar... It's time to squeeze, crunch and mess it up in order to create the Boho Wave. There really are no steadfast rules to create a Boho Hairstyles, its all about trial and error to find out what works best for you hair type. The one key is you are definitely going to need a texturizing creme.
For those with Naturally Wavy Hair you are lucky, this will be easy for you. Curly people you may need to straighten a tad. And for those like me with straight hair just follow these directions to unlock those hidden waves lying deep within your hair.
- Start with clean wet hair. Apply some texture creme or good gel, I like Bumble and Bumble Texture Creme, it is easy to work with and unlike gels which are too sticky, it glides on hair easily. I know what you are thinking, "My hair is clean and now I am adding this to my hair to make it dirty." Yes, that's right! We need this grit to hold the curl.
- Scrunch hair with your hands while Blow Drying in sections with a diffuser. Be sure to completely dry the sections before moving on to the next section or the dampness from the one section will relax the waves.
- Add more definition to any strands with a curling iron. Make sure you always curl away from your face.
- Finish with a Hairspray or Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. This stuff rocks and makes your look awesome with that windswept beachy look.
Hair dryers or Blow Dryers - Ionic, Ceramc & Tourmaline
Did you know that hair dryers have come a long way. There are really so many to choose from.
For any hairstyle ... you need one main item. It's a hairdryer. You will want to find a hair dryer which will not damage your hair. The ionic hair dryers are the best available and are the least damaging to your hair.
What does ionic mean? Keeping it simple and not going into any chemistry here. It basically means that an ionic hairdryer will heat up faster which reduces the drying time of your hair. Less drying time simply means less damage to your hair. Some of the other claims to fame of the ionic hairdryer are less frizz, healthier hair and even shiny hair.
Did you bite the bullet and invest into one of these newer type hair dryers? What kind did you get and how do you like it? With so many to choose from it really makes it hard to pick one.
I recently decided to update my 8 year old hair dryer with one of these new ionic hair dryers. I chose a Chi model which came with two types of diffusers and was a cool white pearl color. I am not sure why I chose the Chi model. I guess I figured I like their Flat Irons, so why not. However, I must admit I was not happy about the price, but I must admit the thing works great. It is an awesome hair dryer and it drys my hair so much faster as well as leaving it shiny and NOT frizzy. It was definitely a great investment.
So my question to you is, what kind of Hair Dryer do you use?
Are you still using that Vidal Sassoon one from the early 80's. I am totally serious with that question, because my husband has one of those to this day. Not sure why, since he doesn't really have enough hair to blow dry, so I imagine it must bring back those fond hair memories from yesteryear.

Remington Ceramic Curling Wand
If you have never used a curling wand, it is definitely something you need to try. Before owning this Remington I owned an earlier version. I loved it and the waves I was able to create were awesome and so much faster than the traditional curling iron. But there was one problem. I was continuously burning myself. Ouch that hurts! With the introduction of the glove those days are gone. Thanks Remington.
The Remington Tstudio Salon Collection Pearl Digital Ceramic Curling Wand is without a doubt the best curling wand/iron I have ever owned. To create a boho wave look you will want to go with the 1 1/2 inch barrel. However it is available in a 1 inch as well. This curling wand heats up fast and is hot, so you need to use extreme caution when using. I do not recommend any curling wand for short hair. The wand style curling irons are best for shoulder length to long hair, you need something to wrap around it.
For the price it is a steal. No, it's not a professional curling wand/iron but it does the job, as a matter of fact. It does the job pretty darn well.
Apply Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray to wet hair and work through. Blow dry with a diffuser while scrunching. So simple and effective. You will wonder how you lived without it all these years.
Bumble and Bumble
Create Texture and Boho Waves
I first discovered Bumble and Bumble a few years ago from my hair stylist. My first product was the Bb Thickening Hair Spray which I still use today. it does a great job adding volume to otherwise listless limpy hair like mine without making it sticky.
The Bb Texture Creme is my new fav and I must say that it really works great for creating great boho waves.
Check out the Bumble and Bumble video I have included on this page. it will amaze you at how well it works.
I work it into my wet hair after shampooing and blow it dry with a diffuser scrunching all the way. I finish it with a few squirts of Bb Surf Spray or the Bb Thickening Hair Spray . I like to spray them into my hands and run it through my with my fingers to define the waves for a more wind blown look.
Sea Salt Spray - Bumble and Bumble Sea Spray
B&B's Surf Spray is the greatest invention since the blow dryer. This is a must for anyone trying to achieve that wavy beach or boho look in their hair.
