Beautiful Butterflies... Jewelry, Photos, Gifts And Fun!

Updated on August 30, 2017

Butterfly, My Butterfly

Why did the butterfly flutter by? Perhaps it was to inspire us with its color and beauty! On this page, I show you some beautiful butterflies and inspired butterfly jewelry and gift ideas, perfect for birthday or anniversary gifts.

The butterfly brings color into our lives. It is a fragile beauty that flickers through our lives, stopping occasionally to sip the sweetest of nectar, but for me, a passing butterfly brings some pure pleasure.

This stunning photo by Ironman11 shows a Queen butterfly and a Monarch butterfly feeding on a Tithonia rotundifolia at the Butterfly Rainforest at the Florida Natural History Museum.

Bugs, Beasties & Creepy-Crawlies

Did you know that there are millions of species of insect in the world? Yes, millions of species, and an uncountable number of individual creatures. More than 900000 species have been identified, and there may be as many as 30 million species in total.

If viewed close-up, insects are quite dramatic. Some are scary, some are ugly, but some are simply beautiful. The colours of the rainbow are displayed by butterfles, dragonflies and beetles.

In the insect world, colour tells a story. Some insects have warning colourations - red and black or yellow and black - to say to predators "don't eat me, I taste nasty". Other insects have colour camouflage to help them blend into the background, either to avoid being eaten, or to lurk for unwary smaller bugs and beasties. Other insects advertise their presence to attract mates or to ward off rivals.

I am not very fond of spiders, but as a child I used to 'keep caterpillars' until they metamorphosed. I had a whole colony of death's head moth larvae in different stages of development. Lovely lens.
