How To Have Clear Beautiful Skin The Natural Way
What Is Acne?
To put it simply, Acne is caused when the pores in your skin become clogged. If you don’t know what acne is however, you probably wouldn’t be here. So let’s bypass the background information and get right to the point. There are countless skin care products out today that claim to fight acne and promise clear beautiful skin like the flawless enhanced models in magazines and TV. Some if it works and some of it doesn’t, it really depends on your personal skin type and how you react to each different product.
Believe it or not there are natural ways to fight acne!
First and foremost (and most important especially for us ladies) Chocolate does NOT cause acne! Neither does candy, soda, chips or fries. Of course that doesn’t mean pig out on all these things, only that our mothers were wrong when they blamed our pimples on potato chips!
Although acne is a hereditary condition, there are outside factors that aggravate it such as stress, birth control pills, certain types of make-up, sun exposure, and even climate. Here are some ideas you can use to help control your acne before you go out and spend tons of time and money looking for the perfect “cure”
Look for oil free or "non-comedogenic" make up.
Oils in make up are almost always the type that irritate your skin, so although not all oils are bad it is best to use oil free make up. The problem is that the fatty acids in the oil of your make up are usually more potent than your own fatty acids, and this helps clog your pores and lead to outbreaks.
It’s always important to read the label when buying cosmetic products. And remember that this is more than just make-up. Lotion, cleansers, anything that you use on your face can be harmful to sensitive skin. Avoid anything that contains lanolins, isopropyl myristate, sodium lauryl sulfate, laureth-4 and D & C red dyes.
It goes without saying (I hope) that it is always important to wash makeup off at night. Remember it is also important to thoroughly RINSE after washing. Any soap left on your skin can clog your pores. As far as soaps go, it is best to use something mild, for sensitive skin. I have extremely sensitive skin and I use Olay Sensitive Skin Gentle Foaming Face Wash with Aloe. I am a sucker for Olay products, they are fantastic for my skin type. Remember when washing your face do not over wash. Not only can doing this dry out and irritate your skin but if done often enough it could cause increased oil production.
Also always remember to clean your make-up applicators! This is a good way to keep from spreading harmful bacteria all over your face!
Here is a neat trick
If you are curious about the amount of oil in your make-up, try applying a small amount to a sheet of paper. Wait 24 hours and then take a look. If you can see a large grease stain around the area where the make-up is then your make-up contains a considerable amount of oil.
Popping The Pimple
Keep in mind that a pimple is an inflammation and by squeezing it, you are causing more of an inflammation, and could possibly cause an infection. You can also damage and even scar the area around your blemish by squeezing or picking at it. Take my word for it, I have a scar or my left cheek that I made as a teenager trying to pop a pimple. It’s best to try touch your face as little as possible, as doing so can actually push more bacteria into your pores.
Believe it or not, skin care isn’t all about make-up tips! Men, when it comes to acne shaving is a big deal.
You want to make sure to soften your skin with warm water before you shave. If you can shave in the shower, this is ideal. If not then shave after your shower. Washing your face before shaving not only softens the hair and skin but also cleans away any bacteria that could cause infection.
People often go against the grain to get a closer shave. If you have acne prone skin however, shaving with the grain will reduce irritation and inflammation. It will also be less bloody if you are shaving over pimples.
Using a shave gel (preferably applied with a brush) will help lift the hairs and also lubricate your skin for a slicker shave. Be sure to use a sharp razor that allows for you to shave with light pressure.
Don’t forget to moisturize your skin after shaving to keep it from drying out.
Stress can cause acne and acne can cause stress. It is a vicious cycle indeed. Stress can stimulate hormones that not only create more oil but also slow down your body’s natural healing process. The best way to fight stress related acne is fairly obvious. Fight the stress.
Even though I said earlier that taboo food do not cause acne, a healthy diet is great for reducing stress. Also taking a 20 minute walk daily is great for your stress levels as well as your body. Be sure to get a good amount of sleep each night. Activities like Yoga not only exercise but also relax you and are fantastic for reducing stress. Find out what relaxes you and be sure to treat yourself in order to de-stress and fight acne!
Over The Counter Products and Home Made Pimple Potions
As I said earlier, we are all different and our skin will react to thing’s in different ways. So whether you are going to go out and buy the most expensive acne fighting product out there, or mix your own cure from things around the house just be sure to patch test something before you spread it all over your face. You want to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction and end up breaking out even more.
Keep your skin moisturized as dry skin can also cause irritation and breakouts. Also avoid too much sun. If you are going to use sunscreen be sure to patch test that as well.
Smoking used to be “cool” in the 80’s but thankfully for today’s youth now it does seem to be the thing NOT to do. Studies are still conflicting in determining whether or not smoking can cause acne. Even though smoking may or may not contribute to acne, it is still harmful to your skin in other ways.
Not only is smoking associated with wrinkles and premature skin aging, it is linked to poor wound healing, psoriasis and even some skin cancers. And those are only skin related health issues caused by smoking.
Have Confidence In Yourself
Remember that most people do not have perfect skin. Don’t beat yourself up over a couple pimples, they go away. Just try to keep your skin as healthy as you possibly can and it will pay off in the long run.
