Chemo Hats, Caps, and Scarves

Updated on August 20, 2014

Chemo Hats, Caps, and Scarves for Cancer Patients or Females with Alopecia

One of the most devastating things for a woman or girl to cope with while going through chemo is losing her hair. My teenage daughter lost her hair when being treated for cancer. But there can be many other reasons for hair loss in females. These chemo hats, caps, berets, and scarves will provide practical help by protecting the head and keeping you warm, but they also look great which will help you feel good about yourself despite losing your hair.

Purple and red flowers head scarf available from CJ Hats.

Most of the hats on this page are available to purchase from CJ Hats and are made by Mary Ann, a cancer survivor who knows the pain of trying to find something comfortable and affordable to wear on your head.

Hat Liners

Hat Liners

$5

If you are on a strict budget which doesn't stretch very far, one or two of these hat liners would be perfect for you. You can wear them under the hats you already own. They will add a bit of bulk to your head so that the hat won't be too big and your scalp will be completely covered so that the gap in the back of a baseball cap will not expose your skin. They will also keep you covered when you wear one of your scarves and keep those silky scarves from just slipping off your smooth head. They can also be worn around the house and to bed to keep your head warm on those chilly days and nights.

Turban Plus Abbey Caps from Amazon

These soft turbans are made from a lovely soft fabric and don't put a lot of pressure on your head. The gathered sides help to give the turban a fuller look and the ruffle at the back will cover your neck. This hat fits snugly with the hidden elastic and won't blow off in windy weather. The fabric is light enough to allow the hat to be worn in Summer. Available in a wide range of colors.

Kaylee's Story

When my 13 year old daughter, Kaylee, was diagnosed with cancer several years ago, we were given a list of the drugs used in the chemotherapy protocol she would be given, along with their possible and probable side effects. Several of the drugs had hair loss as one of the possible / probable side effects. We were still hopeful that she would be one of the few who didn't experience that distressing side effect. In the first few days after starting on the chemotherapy, she kept her hair, but then suddenly on day ten, great clumps of hair started to come out. She was given some lovely hats and we also bought some wigs. Wearing these helped her to feel prettier and more feminine.

I've been bald three times in my life and hats were some of my best friends during those times.
