They detested having to look at the girls watches at all, but the men's designs were another story.

Analog vs Digital Watches for Kids - Learning to tell time...
Which type of watch do you prefer for a child? In a digital world, the availability of digital watches makes it easy to identify the time right away. However, analog is still around, making it important for a child to learn to read such a clock or watch. The emphasis may depend on a parent's goals and a child's abilities to date. When I was a youngster, digital wasn't available until my middle school years...at least as I remember. There wasn't a choice. Now, though, there are options.
I like the fact that an analog clock develops geometry and fraction concepts as well, and I see great value in continued teaching of this time telling method. It's not going away, anyway. However, for a very young child, a digital clock is great for developing number recognition. A great choice, of course, is a watch that incorporates both!
