Cosmetic face lift - Before & After

A cosmetic face lift surgical procedure is much more beneficial to people aged from around 40 yrs, and though younger people have been known to undergo a facelift surgery procedure, for many reasons, it is usually recommended for those who have sagging and loosening skin on the face, visible signs of age.

As we get older, the effects of gravity, too much exposure to the sun and the stress encountered in our daily lives becomes evident on our faces and necks. Unsightly wrinkles begin to form between our noses, corners of our eyes and mouths, our jaw lines become slack, and ugly folds and fat deposits appear around our necks.

The procedure of cosmetic face lift surgery has been improved upon over the years, so going under the surgeons knife is getting more popular globally, and there is really nothing to be afraid of nowadays, as long as the health status of the intending facelift surgery patient is great.

The age limit for any cosmetic face lift surgery is usually around 70 to 75 years, but ultimately this should be determined by the health of the client the surgical procedure is performed in a hospital or clinic, under general anesthesia.

Face Lift Surgical Procedures

Depending on the type of, and the extent of treatment that may be required, having a cosmetic face lift can, and will put the spunk back into many lives of those with sagging, droopy and wrinkled faces and necks, boost self confidence, and improve self esteem.

The various options which are most commonly employed for facelift surgery are:

The Mini Cosmetic Face Lift

There are younger people, both male and female, who have a little problem with a particular feature of their face, and all they may require is a little correction here or there. This form of cosmetic face lift surgery is all they need.

There may be the need for some facial adjustments along the jaw line or the cheeks. Their earlobes may be structured funny, causing self consciousness or low esteem. This type of procedure - the mini facelift - is for them.

On the other hand, a few clients might have undergone a standard cosmetic face lift, but their skin needs to be tightened again due to it sagging again gradually. The mini face lift is ideal for them too.

Though this cosmetic plastic surgery procedure has limited results, it however has a shorter recovery period and requires smaller surgical incisions, which heal easier and faster.

The S-lift Facelift Surgery

If one has minor facial and neck skin sagginess, the S-lift cosmetic face lift process is ideal.

A variant of the mini face lift, this form of facelift surgery involves an incision made above the ear, coming down to the earlobe and continuing behind the ear.

The Thread Facelift

This is a non-invasive facial procedure (non surgical) and involves placing barbed sutures passed through the skin of the cheeks. Though not a replacement for a standard face lift, but it is ideal if all required is a minor correction.

Being a non invasive cosmetic face lift procedure, the thread lift cosmetic surgery's benefits are limited and does not last that long.

So people who want a dramatic change should not opt for this because they may come out feeling a bit disappointed with the results of this form of cosmetic face lift.

Mid Face Cosmetic Face Lift

A cosmetic face lift great for the creases coming from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth (naso-labial folds), or for those with sagging cheeks.

The area worked upon is the cheekbone part and the upper lip, helping to improve this area.

The incision which is not too long, is made in the temporal hairline . If you feel you've lost the youthful plump of the cheeks due to aging, the mid face cosmetic surgical procedure is good for you.

Full Cosmetic Face Lift

As the name implies, a full or standard cosmetic face lift can 'set back the hands of time' by removing excess facial skin from the neck, chin and cheek areas with surgery under general anaesthetic.

The full cosmetic face lift surgery is good only for those in the age bracket of 40 to 70 years (sometimes up to the 80's), and it involves a more major approach to rhytidectomy.

Due to the noticeable signs of aging, which begins early for some in their 40's, this procedure involves the cosmetic surgeon making an incision which starts from the hair, in the temple area, down the curves in front of the ear, round the earlobe and up the back of the ear and then curving gently back into the hair again.

It may be necessary to add an incision under the chin as well. This helps the skin and deep tissues to be remodelled and re-draped. Full cosmetic face lift incisions are well hidden around the ears and the hairline, and these cuts heal well and fade usually between 3 to 6 months.

Ready To Take The Plung?

Surgery for a cosmetic face lift can take between 2 to 5 hours, and it is required to stay in the hospital or clinic for the operation for a few days, depending on the type and extent of the procedure undertaken.

After surgery, there is a regular check up which is mandatory and these check ups are usually free, or will have been included in your bill. Stitches can be removed between 2 or 3 weeks after the surgical procedure.

Facelift scars from cosmetic face lift takes months to fully heal, while gradually becoming smoother and the colour gently returning to normal. Before the final healing process takes place, any scarring will be hidden within the hair and behind the ears.

My experience with Thread Lift was not as positive as I had hoped. The procedure took about 4 hours. I had little pain, some swelling and bruising. The "turkey neck" was the target, but the result was minimal. The doctor saw me the next day for an adjustment. That hurt to have the threads pulled without the benefit of local numbing. The neck was tighter on one side than the other, and that did not change when swelling went down. The Thread Lift is permanent, it's just that as we age, the skin sags more and more. I finally, a year later, had liposuction for the under chin area with great results. I wish I'd saved the money and just had lipo first.

Life dancer, firstly, thanks so much for your visit.

As i mentioned, some may come out not quite satisfied with the thread lift. Its only great for minor corrections. Having said that, i'm glad you were able to correct it with lipo, and get your desired results. I know you are enjoying your refreshed looks now.

The skin is not meant to be a supporting structure, so facelifts that only lift the skin, or mostly the skin, will not last very long. Once jowls are starting to form and the high cheek pads have fallen or sunk, the muscles underneath the skin must be pulled back to their original position, then the skin is draped over it, excess skin is removed, and you have a lift that will last many years and you will not look pulled. This is called a SMAS layer. Make sure your surgeon does a high SMAS and he will also be addressing the midface as well as the lower face. Look at before and after photos of his patients that are at least a year old, not four or five months old, where any lift can still look good. If a surgeon is done with a face lift in two or three hours, he is probably only doing a skin only lift or a sloppy suturing job. Good work takes time. Find a surgeon that only does one facelift a day, so you know he is taking his time and devoting all his attention to only you. And find a surgeon that only works on faces, not every part of the body.
