Crocs Shoes and Why I Love Them

This is the very first Crocs design - it's rather gorgeous I think!

This article is about the wonders of Crocs shoes! I know they were voted the ugliest shoe in the universe (or something like that) but my family swear by them because they are summer loving shoes.

They are really comfortable, durable, and perfect for all sorts of conditions. We wear them on the beach, in the river, for walking in town, and country, and in the winter they make perfect slippers.

To be very honest my love of real Crocs shoes took a while to develop because I decided to buy imitation ones instead! I don't usually buy 'labels' , and I really believed that all these shoes were the same - so why pay extra just for a brand name!

Well that was a mistake I can tell you.

There are three people in my family and one is a growing child. So I ended up with a very large basket full of these imitations because they were utterly useless. A total false economy!

Here's what we found wrong with them:

  • The backs came off almost immediately because the clips didn’t work, and without the backs they were hard to walk in, this was because they were not shaped properly.
  • The plastic was very slippery, which made them dangerous around the very places where they were needed - near water!
  • They were not shock absorbent, and therefore were not comfortable to wear.
  • They made your feet very hot and I'm very sorry to say - smelly too!!

However, we kept buying them because we needed cheap shoes for the river and the beach every summer.

Unfortunately I threw them all away without taking a photo so I can’t show you them, but at one point we counted 21 shoes. We must have lost one somewhere!

Then I decided to buy authentic Crocs shoes and I was amazed at how absolutely brilliant they are!

Do you think Crocs are Ugly?

These are good even when they get wet. They are a little smarter to look at than ordinary Crocs.

I was silly, but I was convinced that those imitations would perform just like the originals - and because they sort of worked, especially for my son who loved them when he was swimming in the river, we just kept replacing them every time we hit a market stall!

However, one day I decided to try out REAL Crocs! And because I had very little faith I searched for the cheapest pair I could find on Amazon.

That was about 3 years ago, they were for my son, and he wore them almost everyday until he grew out of them, and now my husband wears them to do the gardening.

All the problems I listed above vanished! They were great, really comfortable, and fitted really well.

I knew that sizing could be a problem so I bought a big pair. That worked well because my son's feet are broad therefore he could wear them very comfortably. He found them so good that he didn’t need any other sandal for 2 years.

I bought a neutral color so they looked fine for any occasion. He wore them for school and even with socks. In the rain too.

The first Crocs shoes, called The Beach, were released in 2002 (gosh doesn’t time fly!) from a patented material called Croslite foam.

The foam hasn't changed and still has that walking on air feel, but have you seen the amazing designs they have created since then?

There are Crocs for every season, slippers, and sandals, flats, boots, and Crocs with faux fur in them, and most of them really cool looking.

Below is a really great video showing how Crocs are made.

You really can buy Crocs that are lined with fur, and they even make amazing boots. I have put a few examples here, but if you click on any of these you'll be taken to where there are many styles to choose from.

Here's an example of a flip flop style Crocs sandal. These come in different bright and cheerful colours, and they have men's designs too.

This is a beautiful lego Crocs shoe for toddlers. I think they're so creative in their designs. I'm sure any child would wear these very happily.

Aren't these great!

Have I persuaded you? Well if so I wish you well to wear them!

Here's another Hub about New Balance Walking Shoes I highly recommend these too.

If you are a Crocs fan tell us why, if not why ever not - I love em! Please leave a comment. Thanks very much for your visit.

Hooray! I must admit I too draw a line with wearing them with socks! But the right socks and the right funky coloured Crocs could work! Thanks for your visit and your great comment.

I've had real Crocs for years and will NEVER switch! Only wish I'd known about them before I went to England in 2003 because they weigh absolutely nothing. Instead, I took a pair of knock-off Birks that were nearly the ruin of my feet after "Walking The Parks" (Kensington Palace through every park beween it and Horse Guards Parade - not recommended on a hot afternoon in June...).

Really need to get a new pair of Crocs as the nubs on the soles that provide traction have worn down to the point that they're dangerous if there's the slightest bit of moisture on the pavement or grass. (I learned this the hard way...) Also, I tried wearing them with socks in winter like I'd done with a pair of REAL Birks, but it just felt too "odd".

      Long live Crocs! ;D

I actually love Croc shoes, they seemed to slip out of style around here but I still wear them because they are cute and comfortable. I need a new pair though!
