My favorite part of summer has always been the cute summer purses. There are so many to choose from, and after a long winter of leather and suede, isn't it nice to see the colorful straw and canvas purses? And, unlike swimsuits, purses always fit!

My husband got me this yellow purse for my birthday this past spring. I have gotten more compliments on this bag than any I have ever had.

These type purses, popular in the 1950's and 1960's, were inspired originally by the baskets that fishermen carried for their smaller fish.

Shiny patent leather shoes and purses were everywhere on Easter Morning. Tucked inside the new purse, there was usually some Easter candy nabbed from the Easter basket as you went out the door to eat during Sunday School or church.

Cute summer purses from years gone by can be bought for a bargain on eBay. You may find that special purse you had in your youth that would just bring summer alive for you. I am looking for a basket purse with a needlepoint monogram that were popular in the late 1960's. The teenage girls would make extra money selling the monograms. Velvet ribbon was laced through the basket, and it was usually lined in a coordinating fabric. We got the baskets to make them at Dixie Pottery in Abingdon, Virginia.

As a grown woman, it's interesting to realize how many good pocketbook memories I have! Easter purses were the most avid memories. Did you get those litle white patent leather purses with balls that snapped close at the top? Often, these purses were miniature versions of our mom's, and it made me feel so grown up to carry a purse like that on Easter morning. Tell us about your memories of Easter purses.
