Dansko Shoes for Women with Sore Feet

Updated on October 3, 2015

Deborah suffered for several years with Plant Fasciitis, or painful heels, until she experimented with several brands of shoes.

After months of suffering with Plantar Fasciitis, resulting in painful feet, I learned that I could heal them by wearing the right shoes!

Comfortable Shoes for Women

Dansko Shoes have long been considered the top choice in clogs or sandals for women who work on their feet. Nurses, in particular, have worn them for decades and these shoes are often considered a part of their uniform.

Like many other women who spend a lot of time on my feet while I work, I have been searching for comfortable shoes to wear that will help me survive a full day of standing and walking around. I work at a high school, and spend nearly the entire day on my feet. I also have plantar fasciitis, a painful condition that causes my heel to hurt when I am walking or standing. While I have known about Dansko nursing shoes for a number of years, the sterile, white shoes I saw them wearing did not look attractive to me. I wanted shoes that were stylish as well as comfortable. I didn't want high school students laughing about my old lady shoes!

Finally, while browsing online for comfortable shoes, I was stunned to discover that Dansko actually sells a wide variety of stylish clogs, including traditional leather clogs, cute colorful clogs, and strappy sandal style clogs. I even went into a local department store to try some on, and was surprised by how comfortable they felt. Now that I have purchased my first pair, I was pleased to realize that I can wear them all day.

Fun Clogs Look Great with Jeans or Slacks

Although Dansko clogs may seem like serious shoes, they can also be whimsical, like the fun country style clogs you will see here.

Whether you want solid colored, professional clogs, nurses shoes, or shoes for any other occasion, Dansko has a comfortable shoe that is likely to please you.

If you click on the blue product name of any item mentioned in this article, you will be taken directly to the Amazon website where you can get more information on that item or you can enter your search criteria and look for more products.

Dansko Clogs Have Been Worn by Nurses for Decades

Comfy, cute and in a nice cheerful red color. They are perfect with jeans!

Comfortable Shoes for Women

Dansko offers a wide selection of both closed toe and open toe shoes. You'll notice that the heel area is a bit higher than the toe area for most of their styles. According to my podiatrist, this is the perfect arrangement for people with plantar fasciitis because it takes some of the pressure off the heel.

Since I began wearing shoes that had a little bit of height in the heel, I have noticed that my plantar fasciitis has become less painful and I can walk much longer and further. If you suffer from this condition, you will be happy to make the switch to more comfortable shoes.

My podiatrist warned me that it could take a few months before my feet really felt better ... and he was right. However, I could immediately tell that there was less pressure on the heels of my feet.

This Feminine Style is Very Comfortable

I live near the ocean, and I think these clogs look great in the summer. They are feminine and comfortable. They also are higher in the heel than in the toe, which distributes your weight better.

Pretty Sandals for Women

Just because you want to wear comfortable shoes does not mean you are limited to clogs. Dansko and similar shoe designers also make attractive sandals that are better for your feet that traditional flipflops or sandals with thin soles.

You'll discover that most Dansko sandals are available in a variety of colors and styles. Just because you have sore feet, you don't have to confine yourself to shoes that look like your work in a hospital. Their open toed shoes will look great with a pair of shorts or a cute summer dress.

Dressy Sandals for Women

Your sandals do not have to be casual. You can still be comfortable, even when you are going out to dinner or out for a special occasion. There's nt need to feel that you have to be in pain in order to be pretty.

Look for open toed, strappy sandals that are pretty and comfortable.

Dansko Professional Clogs

Loafers and Slip-on Shoes

One of the features I enjoy about my Dansko shoes is how professional they look with a pair of slacks. Their slip-on loafers in dark brown suede are comfortable and attractive to wear in the winter. They look good whether I have on a pair of dressy chocolate brown slacks, or a pair of casual blue jeans. I own the comfy shoes shown here, and I love them.

One of the features that appeal to some of the people who have reviewed them on Amazon (and something I liked, as well) is the fact that the uppers have elastic which makes them more comfortable for people with a high instep. They will not take as long to break in as the shoes with the solid leather uppers (which I thought were a little stiff). However, people who have purchased the traditional leather clogs say that they become comfortable after they are broken in, and they last for years.

What shoes do you think are the most comfortable for sore feet?

Of course, comfort is essential in shoes. You've chosen some great ones here.

Nurses have worn Dansko shoes for decades. Of course, she still needs to experiment and find the style that works best for her, but these shoes are a good choice.

Wow these shoes really look comfortable. I will have to have my wife check them out. She has to be careful buying shoes because she gets blisters very easy.

Au fait - You are amazing if you only own two pairs of shoes! I know that it is hard to find shoes that are both comfortable and attractive. I hope you find some more that you like.

Don't think I've ever heard of these shoes before, but will have to keep them in mind next time I'm looking for shoes.

I'm probably one of the hardest people in the world to suit when it comes to shoes. I'm no Imelda Marcos. I own 2 pair of shoes right now and that's because I'm so hard to suit when it comes to style. No matter how comfortable they are, or how much they cost, if I don't like them, I won't wear them. My parents discovered that years ago, and I've always known it, so I don't even consider shoes I don't like. Will have to check more of these shoes out. Glad you brought them to my attention.

Thanks, Sandy! You have probably seen this shoe brand before, and not realized it. A lot of the traditional white nurses shoes that were worn for years were Dansko shoes. Now they have expanded their styles and designs to make these comfortable shoes attractive to other women.

I have never heard of these shoes before and am grateful to you for writing about them. I have sore feet and find it very difficult to find shoes that are comfortable. Are they true to size if you buy them online? Well done and thank you.

My daughter wears these at a pharmacy during 10-hour shifts and it has really helped her--she used to get back pain, too. A good foundation makes a big difference.

Glad to learn about these new clogs - new to me anyway. I had to wear uniform shoes for 18 years and now that I'm retired I live in Crocs. It's hard for me to put my feet into ladies dress shoes. I imagine these clogs could have the same effect after years of use.

@zacrew7: I have plantar fasciitis, which is a foot problem. However, I have heard that some types of back pain can be attributed to wearing the wrong shoes. If I were you, I would try a pair of good shoes that are designed to improve your posture, and see if they help. I have been trying different brands of shoes to see which ones I think are the most comfortable. Wearing these shoes for foot pain have definitely improved the quality of my life.

If changing shoes does not help you, you may want to have your doctor give you a physical. Back pain can be caused by other problems such as slipped discs or kidney problems. Good luck.
