Favorite Dark Purple Lipsticks for Some Drama
Luscious and Amazing
Once you begin using a dark purple lipstick you will always want to keep it in your cosmetic bag of tricks. I love the added "oomph" it gives to my face.
It is one of those colors that adds drama to any face and brings out the warmth and glow of most skin tones. At an earlier point in time, it was all I wore and looked great with a short haircut framing my face.
Not all colors measure up--what one person calls purple the next person would call plum and sometimes brown.
Which makes finding the perfect one a true hunt!
I have a particular favorite, which you will see if you scroll down, but there are other products available too that might suit your tastes better.

MAC Smoked Purple - My Favorite!
My all time fav is the MAC Pro Lipstick in this great smokey color.
Deep, dark and husky in its look. Velvety smooth when you put it on.
The color works for both day and night. I love this lip color and keep it handy all the time. Sometimes I switch up and use it after I have been wearing something lighter, pinker or more red.
The Right Color for Your Skin Tone
Granted, not every one is comfortable with a purple lip but
If you have Fair Skin:
Look for one with cool colored undertones. Porducts blended with a bit of pink or have a touch of blue are called cool undertones. Those would likely be the bolder colors for impact or the paler ones for a softer look.
Medium skin tone can rock a broader range of colors than the lighter skin tones because they can wear the cooler purples and the warmer, red and brown purples, too. Mediums can also wear orange/reds well too, like coral.
Darker skinned women can wear warm, brown purples---the color helps to add a harmony to the face. Darker skins can also wear the cool, pink/lavender colors for a contrasting look. Try mixing a shiny over a warm red for more dimension.
Soft Touch Lip Pen
For me, I like thisdeep purple/brown lipstick.
The pen style gives me better control and coverage and the purple is dark without being overly dramatic.
The product is made with oils - apricot and rice bran - so that it glides on smooth and stays put. Provides a very, soft and demure look and texture.

Have You Ever Tried...
Using your dark purple lipstick for rouge or a cream eye shadow?
Seems like, in a pinch, it could be a useful alternative, especially if you didn't have any cheek color with you.
I sometimes use my powder cheek color as any eye shadow---the deeper colors work well, but light pinks might work too.
Clinique Grape Cognac
The grape cognac is a bit brown making it a good basic purple neutral.
Clinique's line of long lasting lipsticks also includes a black violet--another great purple neutral.
This si a re-moisturizing lipstick, I believe all of Clinique's lipstick are, which means it won't dry out your lips or get cakey or peely.
Completely Unrealistic Look for Most of Us
Had to post this, it just grabbed my attention because it is a fashion statement most women cannot carry off.
Completely inappropriate for the office, but might be great for a weekend fling! Layer a vibrant purple lipstick over a deep red lip.
Love the smokey eye.
Manic Panic Purple
A great BOLD purple color--perfect for a party or club look or just when you want to perk-up your mood.
It's called Deadly Night, provides full coverage and is a favorite for a Goth look.
Many women of color appreciate this brand of lipstick for its bold color choices and Deadly Night is one of their favorite colors.
